ok in an earlier post i asked if diplomacy had really ever worked.now i ask ,has war ever really worked?to be sure it is necessary.good walls make good neighbors, but has more ever been fulfilled and gained in war, than was extracted in human life?in other words has the juice ever been worth the squeeze?

But the kindness and respect you show for others, will not.
So is there really any honour in Total War games?
    No.
But there is in some of it’s players…

Yet again, a "philosophical", not a "historical" thread, best fit to the Backrom imho.

heh VAE unfortuantly if looks like your going to have to wait until your member status increases before you can enjoy these discussions you like starting (look forward to you joining us)

and onto the question, from what i now off history of conflicts (which isn't all that much i admit) i would probably say WW2, Western Germany Austria were liberated (other were only conquered after the war started but can we think hitler would have wanted to expand more west ?) there where other provinces liberated but they went under the control of stalin, which whilst being terrible i feel is "generally" better for the population.

The concentration camps were a horrible evil which thank god we saved people from, generations people were saved from a racist mindset, and racism was exposed for the evil that it was. Also we musn't forget the japanese angle of the war, another democracy founded, and well the japanese side of the war i have little knowledge on i have heard of terrible atrocities commited by the japanese, which were stopped.

lastly, though im sure theres more ive missed, even though WW1 is largely credited with the break up of the european powers colonys im sure WW2 had a helping hand in it, Just thought of another one! the political thought that swept europe after the war (i only now in paticular of britians but ive heard there was a general Western European change) which saw the founding of the welfare state in britian.

ok im all out though im sure theres some more, i now WW2's casualtys were horrific on all sides but considering what came out of it i feel that yes, the juice was worth the squeeze.

This one is also probably best made a backroom topic.

I've asked this same fundamental question about some road construction projects--not all or even most, just a few that took 3 or 4 years of major traffic disruption to put in a new intersection or the like and obviously caused more damage in the process than any future good.
    Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
