training elephant units as julia

I'm on my first campaign as the julia and I've now conquered north africa. There's elephants on the strategy map indicating that elephants can be traned in that province. What do I have to biuld in order to train them or can I only get them as mercenerys ????

Only carthage and seleucids can train all 3 elephant units. Parthia gets war eles. All other factions are out of luck.

You can occasionally hire merc war eles on the North Africa coast from Tingi to Carthage or on the Middle East coast in the Jerusalem Sidon area.

Easiest way as Romans is to save and reload until you get a merc war ele when you fulfill a Senate mission that has a reward as major exotic unit.

huh no problem in battles they are normal eles

The thing is that if the faction does not own the unit, then you do not have the strat map unit tab. You can copy and paste the icon from a faction that has eles and rename it but it will retain that faction's colors unless you muck around with Photoshop to change the colors.
