Excellent point. Recently there was a rather fierce discussion of Alexander the Great that had all sorts of present-day ramifications with regard to homosexuality, Greek and Macedonian identity, ethnic historiography, etcetera. It's impossible to separate the past from the present. But it is quite possible to force members to observe civilised discourse.

I would favour the latter.
