When Shogun first hit it was quite unique and immediately appealed to a lot of gamers who had been hoping for just that type of game - a strategy game with a great 3D battle resolution AND a cool multiplayer.

Yep exactly, it was totallydifferent to what was before, it literally was groundbreaking new stuff, on par with any of the half life series.

Multiplayer was also awesome, a great atmosphere and some perfectly adept players, I reckon most of us miss what it was like back then!

Man, STW was just the greatest game I ever loaded on my PC. I'm hoping CA will redo Shogun in the RTW engine, but not put too many retarded comercialized units in it.

May I suggest you look at Warhammer: Dark Omen. It had the battlefield command of the Total War games before the Total War games...

That's true, and the fact that you weren't playing semi-scripted battles helped. There was Shadow of the Horned Rat before Dark Omen, but I never played that, so no idea if it was the same type.

Shadow of the horned rat came before Dark Omen,

I played both a long long long time ago when TW was a twinkle in the sky :P

I remember when I first saw the trailer for Shogun Total War, my jaw almost literally hit the floor. From that first moment, I knew in my gut that strategy gaming was about to change forever.....

    And look at it now?

Are there a million clones to contend with..... Not to my knowledge.

Oh well at least the longtime fans can still find joy in this great series. And late at night when everyone is asleep and your computer is defragmenting you can watch Decisive Battles, just so you can look at the pretty Persians get slaughtered at Thermopylae.
