Also, should I keep the governor of the province in the province he governs? Why?

A irresistible charge is just a way of telling you that the unit has a very high charge bonus for attack. Also I believe if you keep the governer in a province he governs that income and loyalty is boost.
By the way, welcome to the Guild Fuddha. Good to see some people are still interested in MTW.

I always thought irresistable charge meant that they couldn't contrlo themselves so they charge. Charging is irresistable, lol. I quess you are the one that's right though.
About the governor thing, you can keep a useless general in office but don't leave your good family members there. Make them stronger by putting them in battles as often as possible.
The acumen goes up if you leave them there I believe. Also be sure to appoint governors based on their stats if you want to avoid rebellions and stuff. When I first started playing I just gave a title to anyone, anywhere,
Oh my, I realized that I haven't introduced myself... [ColdKnight]
I'm a fan of games such as Civilization, Age of Wonders. I started out with Shogun, and simply got hooked onto that specific playing style. Few months ago I obtained Medieval and I think I'm going to need crack to get me of this drug.Currently I'm saving some money to upgrade my computer somewhat to play Rome. I've played a couple of multiplayer games in a local gaming place though...
The thing with governor is: does my province get acumen, dread, zeal and whatever bounus if his not "in" the province? Or does it simply get less bonus if he's not? I'm asking because I know for a fact that if they stay, they get vices such as greedy...
About irresistable charge... I guess that I should first ask: can a charge be ressisted?
Also I have to share this one with the world. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to do evil deeds with agents and switch the blame to someone else? Or get annual reports from your princess that is married to a rival royal? I want to see real politics, the whispers behind the curtains, the knife in the dark... Anyone who saw a mini-serie called "A Lions Winter" (roughly translated to my language, Croatian, and then roughly translated back to English) will know what I mean...

I know what you mean. I'm 15 and my friends don't know why I'm obsessed with MTW (except my friends with RTW who are obsessed with that). It's truly a great addictive game. And I think the governor only gets acumen points by staying in the province. He gets dread by executing all rebels, prisoners, etc. and other things. If you don't want him to get those vices then balance it out by moving him around every now and then but keep him there the majority of the time. And you can resist an irresistible charge if you have the right units, like armored pikement with good upgrades.
And it's nice to know people in Croatia have computers. I was expecting a bunch of tin shacks stuck together with mud and clay with people dying of famine every day.
HAHAHA, actually those countries in the Balkans have everything now. Not that there is no poverty(no such place really) but there are lots of people who can afford the finer things. Shizzle, even Africa has a fair share of ultra rich people.
Hi Fuddha - I think the "irresistible" label is applied where charge bonus is >8 for cavalry, and (I think) 7 for infantry. Practically, it means the charge is so strong that the enemy unit's formation will be disrupted when the charge hits home. The best way to resist a cavalry charge is with heavy spears, but they will still get pushed back, even though most of the horses get skewered in the process.
Oh yeah, I was also saving up for a machine fit for RTW, but I downloaded the Hellenic Mod for MTW a couple of weeks ago.... and I'm so hooked, Rome can wait!
On governors - if a governor has high dread, he'll get more loyalty from a province cos everyone's scared of him..... It's a good idea to visit the home province sometimes, otherwise he might get a "poor steward" vice, and then his agriculture plummets, but if he stays there he turns into a drinker or worse.

I'll tell you some things if you'd like to know them...
Slavic people have invaded the region as early as sixth century. The kingdom of Croatia has been established in seventh century. Croatia has lost it's independance when it came under Hungarian rule. Then came the Turkish (Ottoman) conquest of Balkans and Bosnia was taken from Croatia. And one victory by Croats beside city of Sisak has stopped them some 200-300 km from Vienna, and ultimately stopped them from raging trough Europe and changing the history as we know it. By centuries of preaching islam, Bosnian people have become very different from Croats. We share the same language, but religion and customs are completely different. Then came the Habsburg rule which ended in world war one(which BTW started when a terrorist assasinated the Habsburg king). Then came various attempts from Serbs to conquer whole Balkan. They foricibly settled Bosnia and parts of Croatia. That ended in world war two. During which Croatia was conquered by Germany. It was a sad period for us, because we more or less alied with the Nazis in hope of gaining protection from Serbs. We all know how nazis ended, so we were again conquered by Serbs in the form of Yugoslavia which was supposed to be a state of equality. Communistic Yugoslavia was lead by a dictator named Tito who was ironicaly a Croat. After his death a war for independance was fought between us, Serbs and Bosnians. Slovenia hasn't bordered Serbia so they didn't fight. It ended in our victory after eight years of a bloody war. Macedionia has fought a brief war with them also. Serbian army was a remnant of the Yugoslavian which was the third most powerful army at the time (USA, USSR then Yugoslavia). Now the Kosovo and Montenegro are about to gain independance from Serbia and thus ending the "Great Serbia" as they called it.
And now we're independent, poor (no famines and mud shacks though) while war profiteers economically speaking rule the country. Our politicians and courts are corrupted and powerless to stop the pillaging of every resource and factory in Croatia. Maybe when all the bad spirits die in 20-30 years will we be truly ours. Maybe...
Also, in 14th-15th century our king has put a curse on Croatian people to suffer under alien rule for five hundred years. The reason is that the people has refused to go on a crudsade to Palestine. Well, whadda ya know?? 500 years later we reach independance...

Irrestible charge usually means a charge bonus of 8, as MR pointed out. This charge can be resisted, its just a big hit.
Impetious means that a unit will charge on its own if an enemy gets too close. For example, the basic difference between Knights of Santiago and Chivalric Knights is that KoS are not impetious.
You do not get any bonus for keeping a guv in his province. I used to think that you did, until a dev corrected me. He said that they originally wanted to include that feature, but it removed. Guvs can move around and it doesn't affect the province.
There is one detail, and that is to not keep your guvs in stakcs with higher command star generals. It seems that the highest command star general in any stack gets the V&Vs.

Fuddha, I like your sig. Monty Python always a fav of mine and the meaning of life was a classic. Also your recounting of your region's rich history over the last 500 years was notably passionate, without being too biased. Being Canadian and having formerly been in the military, I had many friends who served there and I also know people here who returned to fight for one side and also other who fought for another side. I find the conflicts disturbing and hope your people find peace and stability (ie: ditch the profiteers) soon.
Onto your questions, I USUALLY keep a gov in thier province in the early part of the game as they will not get V&Vs if they are buried under a stack. As your domain expands and corruption begins to devalue your gov, it's best to stick these govs back in a stack, I personally like to put them in the King's stack as they don't get disloyal vices while under the king.
I believe irrisistable charge is just a high charge bonus. Such units will require much micromanagement to use them to their best as it's good to keep em charging (in general, there are many exceptions), which requires pulling back and charging again. These unit's are best deployed into the enemy's rear as their charges will have a demoralising effect on enemy troops. Cav units will have an even greater demoralising effect when charging the foe's flanks.
