does anyone know how to change the fonts used in the game (more importantly their colour) ? I'm aware of the file called descr_font_db.txt but it doesnt seem to include information about the font colour.

The font CUR files are located in a PAK. CUR files are another unique filetype made up by CA, so you have little chance editing them unless someone codes a tool for it, or CA releases its own tool.
