    Cool Historical Campaigns

    Hello,
Total Noob and all that and about to make an embarrassing post but here goes.
I can cope with the campaigns on "easy" pretty well thanks to the manual and frogbeastegg's excellent guide. I had a go on "expert" just for a laugh and was amused at how my troops routed so quickly!

My question is about Historical Campaigns - and I am stuck on Hundred Years War as the French in Loire Valley! How do do you win this fight! Also Richard Lionheart at Jaffa(?). Any tips?

    Thanks.

Welcome to the Org Wallace , you've come to the right place for expert advice... but not from me!

Anyway... can you remind me, which battle is the Loire Valley? I guess it is the one where you are Joan of Arc and you are chasing down an English column?

Jaffa is the one outside the castle isnt it?

If so what you do is create a perimeter with your spearmen and other spear units get them in a corner and and form a semi circle with everything behind them, as the egyptian cavalry attacks, your archers (firing at will) cut them down and they cant break through the line of spear class units, aslong as you dont break formation the egyptians will attack and rout attack and rout until they just plain rout and leave the field its actually very easy just cram your army into the corner of the walls of the castle (yes im aware your outside)

    Question Re: Historical Campaigns

Thanks for the Jaffa advice and for the other replies - BUT what I really want is a kind of walkthrough for Loire Valley. You have to get 100 men MORE than the opposition into the castle. (I assume into the INNER wall of the castle.)
As far as I can see, it's a complete bastard!

    Hey Wallace...

IIRC this is the one with your troops surrounding the castle...

First thing to note is that you have to get into the inner walls of the castle.
Second thing to note is that most of your troops in this scenario should act as a decoy!

Look at the castle. At the rear of it, both walls converge. This means a breach here will allow you to enter the inner walls without having to fight through the outer walls.

But, you don't want the troops in the outer ring to move inwards, otherwise you are buggered. Really you want to draw them outwards, reducing their threat and reducing the enemy headcount that you have to exceed.

So... breach the front walls and use fast troops to draw the English out, pinning them with foot to prevent them moving back in.
Simultaneously, breach the rear walls and send troops in there to flush out the enemy and win the day.

    Good luck.

This one is pretty easy once you know how. In the first part of the game make sure that you make at least two breaches in the wall of the keep and use the other cannon to breach the other walls. Use your troops to wipe out the English outside the castle - the crossbowmen can shoot down the men at arms near the front gate. Then leave a handful of troops opposite the gate or on the walls on the far side of the keep. The English may sally and chase these off the field or may stay standing in the bailey just watching them. In the meantime your knights and any other troops you can get in place should storm the keep. They will only have to fight the troops in the keep or if lucky no one at all.
IN the Acre battle, draw you troops up in a tight defensive formation against the walls of the castle with a double rank of spearmen in a box formation with the archers behind them to shoot down the Arabs. But remember that the troops that will do most of the killing are your foot knights but they will have to fight through gaps in the spear units so that they gain protection from the cavalry. In the end the bodies just pile up around your position and the morale of the Arabs breaks. Good luck.
If you like historical battles, we have written some new ones. Look in the upload section of the Org for files called Acre, Dorylaeum, Pass, Stamford Bridge, Hastings. If you cannot find them send me a private message with your email and I will email them to you.
