    [Result]

    Clan Daimyo: NARF
    Clan Daimyo Reserve: Shuko

Mighty Reserves: Eurosan, Vanya, Satake (pending allocation)

    3. Public sign-up (section B1) starts at GMT 0:00 AM July 26, 2001.

    4. Preparation Meetings are held by the clan daimyo*. Topics are:
    * This task will be shared by the clan daimyo reserve(s) if available.

    a. Which game settings and features to be used.

    b. Timeline: how to speed up the flow of campaign.

    == B. Campaign ==

Our cooperative SP campaign consists of the following components.

    1. Generals

    a. Every member has the right to adopt ONE general in the clan. The choice of
general is determined at the beginning sign up and subsequent line-ups
    (see c).

    b. A general is responsible for personally playing all battles COMMANDED by
the general he adopted. He should obtain the save game file from the
campaign executor (section B4). All members are encouraged to make some
informative screenshots during the battle (the more the better). The new
save game file (with the completed battle) and the log file should be sent
back to the executor within 24 hours of its original delivery. Special
request of extension should be made before the 24 hr deadline. The maximum time allowed is 48 hours (24 + 24).

    c. Free (un-assigned) members are those who has not adopted a general for any
reason. Free members stay in the line up and will be called to play
a battle that is commanded by an unadopted general in game. He will then be
assigned to this general and the line-up moves forward. All free members can
still participate in the clan meetings and adopt a free general (through a
public post in the CLAN forum of .org) whenever possible.

    d. If there are multiple battles in one season, the member who signed up first
will command all the battles in this season (and write up the story).
However, this member can let another member play the battles for him.
The substitute gets another full 24 hours to finish the battles.

    e. If a member's general dies under his own command on the battlefield, the
member can choose another free general OR go to the BOTTOM of the line-up.
If a member's general dies NOT under his own command on the battlefield,
the member can choose another free general OR go to the TOP of the line-up.

    f. The general is responsible for writing up the story of each battle he
plays. The story and screenshots should be passed to the campaign publisher
(section B5). The story and screenshots should be submitted as soon as
possible, but does not need to adhere to the 24 hr deadline. (48 hours? )

    g. Members are encouraged to participate in the clan meetings.

    h. Members should obey the dicision of clan meeting and the official
    clan daimyo.

    2. Clan Meetings & the Reserve (a.k.a. Deputy) Clan Daimyo

    a. Clan meetings should be held publically in the .org CLAN forum. Every member
is encouraged to speak out their opinion, while the public are also welcomed
    to join the discussion.

    b. The default meeting time is EVERY WINTER (except Spring 1530). The meetings
are chaired by the clan daimyo, or the reserve clan daimyo(s) if available.
The chair has the decision power of how the meeting goes, such as a vote,
or one word from the official daimyo.

    c. The reserve daimyo is responsible for gathering the meeting (start a new
thread) and announce the meeting period (when it is going to end). Of course,
he also needs to inform the members of the meeting objective(s), such as
"What are we going to do next year?", "Should we punish member ABC?", and
    announce the results afterwards.

    d. The decision of the meeting, whehter through a vote or not, should be taken
as the unchangable decision of the clan for the following year (or whatever
the meeting covers). Any objection should be voiced DURING the meeting.
After the result is annouced by the reserve daimyo, it will be too late to
    change anything.

    e. Emergency meetings can be gathered by the reserve clan daimyo, whenever he
    sees necessary.

    3. Official Daimyo

    a. The official daimyo is the ONLY head and representative of the clan and
should be highly respected. Hail to the daimyo!

    b. The official daimyo plays the true daimyo of the game.
If this character dies in the game, then whoever plays the new
daimyo will become the new official daimyo.

    c. The official daimyo may decide EVERYTHING except conclusions
reached in a previous clan meeting. It is also possible that the official
daimyo is asked to make a decision for a particular issue in the clan meeting.

    d. All confusions and conflicts should be resolved by the clan daimyo, whether
through a meeting or a personal decision.

    4. Executor

    a. The campaign is going to be coordinated by an executor who carry out the
clan decisions on the strategy map,
and transferring the save game files between clan members and himself.

    b. The executor should absolutely obey the decision of the clan meeting /
official daimyo. If he didn't do so, other members can request a re-play
(load game). However, the executor is free to make a decision that is not
covered by the clan meeting or the official daimyo.

    c. The executioner should make a simple report of what have been done since
    the last meeting.

    d. The executor needs to save the game every season. Whenever a battle occurs,
the executor should send the save-game file of the previous season to
the member who plays the general that command the coming battle. If there are
multiple battles, the commanding power should be given to the member
who SIGNED UP FIRST. (so the executor needs a sign-up order list).
However, the assigned member can yield this right to others.

    e. The member should finish his battle and return the new save game file
to the executor in a full 24 hours. If the member fails to do so, the
EXECUTOR (or whoever he assigns) will fight the battle for him.
Special request of extension should be made prior to the deadline,
upto a maximum of 48 hour period.

    f. The executor will personally play a battle that is commanded by an
unadopted general. This will happen only if there are currently no
member staying in the line up.

    g. The executor is responsible for keeping several most recent seasons of the save
game files as well as ALL battle logs. He should also take screenshots of the
strategy maps for the Publisher (see B5).

    h. The executor tells the story on the strategy map.

    i. There is no deadline for the executor due to the fluctuating nature of the work.

    5. Publisher

    a. The publisher should collect the stories from the executor and generals,
and publish it within 48 hours of delivery from the source.

    b. The war story is published on the .org site and open to the public. The
publisher has the right to edit the content of the submitted war stories
    if necessary

    6. Reserves

    a. Reserves are members who are equally willing to help out as B2-B5, but
have not decided their work share yet.

    7. Others

    a. The Emissary/Shinobi/Ninja master is responsible for telling the story
in the angle of these units. He also participates in the clan meeting.

    b. Any member who feels that he cannot fulfill the duties can announce
a resignation - as long as he finds a replacement for him.

    c. If any clan member (everyone mentioned above) is doing a poor job, ANY
member can suggest a replacement (by starting a thread stating who is
nominated to replace). The support of more than 60% of the members is
    needed.

    d. If there are not enough member at any point of the game (announced by
the executor who plays all the unassigned generals), each member
may adapt more than one general.

    That's exactly the idea

Oh btw, how about adding this in B7e:

The clan daimyo, executor, and publisher (reserves included) should have a sense of commitment. If one fails to respond to his duty within 24 hours without prior notice for more than 3 times, he will be recommended to find a substitute.

Hopefully we don't need to use it, just in case we have some missing population some day :-)

Hey there, I have some doubts...

Ok, every winter we have a meeting and discuss what we do in the next seasons.

But how do we know what will happen in the following summer for example? Maybe the enemy attacks us and we will have to counter-
attack immediately. What do I do? Just go and place the attack at my own will?

In other words Im doubting about the practibility of the meeting, because you can't decide or expect all the things coming up for the next 4 seasons
in a single meeting, thus I am suspecting that a very large proportion of the strategic campaign will actually be played by the executor/s.

Um, don't blame me if the campaign is lost.

    Good point.

How about just let the executor to decide everything if this happens - saves a lot of time and easy to understand

or the Executor has a roster of generals and calls upon the next available general or the
most appropriate one (eg. one whose province is under attack) to immediately fight that battle. This would mean having a special "battle notice post " which is updated by the Executor. Hard to know if this would work quick enough to keep the campaign going forward. Perhaps the Daimyo would wish to fight some of these as he gets a bonus unit with ten expendable H/C.

That sounds good to me, too.

The executor can just decide the way to counter attack, and in the following season the command power is going to give to the member who signed up early / who is assigned to play.

Since unfortunately I am the earliest member, I will be giving chances away to those members who haven't fought any battle.

Very well stated rules! I must say I have nothing to challenge! (Breaths sigh of relief!). Looking forward to the campaign!

Hehe... just one question... since youz are collecting battle accounts from the generals, how should we send them? As text files, htm files or PDF files?

I suggest the executor (Tera's group) and the publisher (me and Dongal) both figure out a short, easy-to-follow tutorial for members who have troubles making snap shots and transfering files. The tutorials can be put on the website.

In terms of publication, it will be best if we can receive the finalized version of the war story, text and picutres all nicely set in .htm or .pdf. However, just simple text files and .tga files will be fine, too.

The roster idea is good, yes.

I will need a continiously list of the provinces with the specific generals who are garrisoned there.

So that when a province is under attack I will know which general to call.

But I am kinda doubted. Let's say that a province of mine is attacked...and the battle window (the one with the army sizes etc) appears. I don't think I can save the game there...it won't let me.

And if I give the save game file of the season before the attack, no-one can be certain that the attack will be actaully launched this time...

Yes I guess a list of who's where is needed in the meeting - or just simply email the save game file to everyone

In my own experience, AI's behavior is very preditable as long as we keep the end-season condition same. If the situation you mentioned really happens, I guess we can only do some save-loads to make it happen as in your game.

Just a side thought. How about Tera keeps all adopted generals separated in their individual unit. This way, if I proposal an attack, I will specify how many men of which kind I will need from where.

Maltz & Tera & all clan members.
This may be impractical as it is normal to keep most units at one of the fronline provinces. Speed is important, we are allowing other generals to take all the units they need into battle, the problem is the most senior ranking general will assume command of the battle, so lesser generals will not be able to take those higher ranking generals into battle, as he will not gain any honour for himself. Correct me if I am mistaken on this point.

Thus our provinces that are attacked should be defended by the highest ranking general or if this is impossible then the Executor must do the defending battle. Perhaps a little bit of trial and error will soon sort this out before the major battles for central Japan begin.

    Ok as you said.
I think it won't make a large difference whether we separate or keep every unit together. As long as in the meeting everybody can access the save game file, members will have enough information to make suggestions.

In situations where no attack is planned by the Clan, but we ourselves are attacked in one province, this is my suggestion.

The Executor will contact the member Generals of the defending province that they are being attacked and by what size army (but with no detail) The ranking General will have the option of fighting or retreating. If they choose to fight, then the executor will refer to the positions of the defending Generals on the sign-up order list. The first to sign up will be given the end-of-season file to fight the battle on their system. If a second attack is made latter then the second General to sign up will command the next fight.

If multiple provinces of the Clan are attacked then the battle will go to the first General to sign up that has not played a battle.

If our Clan is attacking that season, then any defensive battles will be given to the General who has been assigned the attack.

    -------------------------
On another issue that I haven't seen worked out. What are we going to do about reinforcing depleted units? My suggestion would be to allow a General whose unit is at 50% or less strength, to control any nonmember unit of the same type. When the new unit has suffered losses sufficient to be combined with the old unit, they will be done so with the old unit being placed on top of the new to retain the original General.

    --------------------------
Also it isn't mentioned when a General dies in a battle not commanded by the member. I think they should also have the option of keeping the unit, and adopting the new commander's name.

Yeah this part has been left out in the original rule. Thanks a lot for pointing it out! However, I was thinking maybe it will be more exciting if an emergency meeting will be held (by the executor) and everyone rushed in to vote out whether to fight or retreat!

If a second attack is made latter then the second General to sign up will command the next fight.

If multiple provinces of the Clan are attacked then the battle will go to the first General to sign up that has not played a battle.

Ok I see what you mean here. In the original rule I was referring to the original sign up order. However, we should be able to adapt this instant-sign-up system in the emergency war meetings... hm things are getting more complicated here.

How about we just let the executor do decide who should fight the battle if this happens!

If our Clan is attacking that season, then any defensive battles will be given to the General who has been assigned the attack.

    No problem with this part!

how ever it is the simplist way to rotate playing the battles to the different Generals of a single province regardless of rankings is alright by me, since that seems to be our chief complaint.

And I like the emergency meeting as well, but suggest that only the local Generals be involved in the decision. This will create some "life like" situations where the General will have to report back the loss of an important province or a failed attack.

In cases where all the generals are of equal rank, I think it would be great if the Excutor could stack the units so that who ever is given the battle would be the in-game General as well.

Hi VoodooChild: By leaving things more flexible we will be able to adjust to the situation more, even ensuring that everybody will have a good chance to get involved. Although the rule says the first people who signed up should play the battle, I guarantee all the early-sign-up guys will be very willing to yield their rights to others!

And I like the emergency meeting as well, but suggest that only the local Generals be involved in the decision. This will create some "life like" situations where the General will have to report back the loss of an important province or a failed attack.

Sounds excellent! So we will do that (lets add this in the rule). Anybody has objections in 2 hours 45 minutes?

Yes. Hopefully we can avoid this kind of frustration way in advance. The executor can still decide who to fight the battle if any conflicts occur, though. (The only one true rule is: the executor is the man! )
