Thread: A way to stop the civil war.

Default A way to stop the civil war.

It seems possible to stop the civil war from happening. It seems that if you can accomplish all the senate missions the civil war will not happen. In my current game I have conquered such a large part of the map that there is almost no location that is really safe from me. The year is currently 190BC and I've succeeded in all senate missions to date. The "make x faction a protectorate" missions I've just conquered the factions instead. I don't see how the senate could give me a mission I can not complete unless they start only giving me 2 turns to complete them. Incase of civil war I have 3 forts on my boarder with Rome with full armies each but I don't want things to come to that. Long live the republic!

Have any of you been able to avoid civil war?

    How's that Pax Romana

I ignored the last senate mission wanting me to make Briton a protectorate

Just shut up and do what the senate tells you........... just shut up and do what the senate tells you.

Avoid it....nah...in my current campaign I have ignored each and every mission the senate has given me. Do I look like their lapdog

I usually try to start the civil war as soon as possible.....

Its starts earlier if you do all missions actually.

Yes, if you do all the missions too quickly, you can trigger the war within 10 years time. Which really sucks, actually.

Bleh, you guys are right. You can't stop the civil war. I did all the missions and eventually they just start asking for my faction leaders suicide. Now i've got a major war on my hands. Wonder how the people feel about me considering I put them all to the sword..

Who gives a damn what the senate wants, I know what I want and it involves a civil war! I can never comply with those old stupid men wearing togas and calling the shots. I hate how it was/is in reality and I hate it in RTW. If I didn't know it already, I'd be asking for a way to start the civil war!

I wonder what the difference is. In my first post 1.2 patch campaign, I'm playing Julii, it's 195 BC, the Marian reforms have just happened, and I control 44 provinces. Britannia has just gone rebel (assassinated their entire family tree) with 3 provinces left, and Spain has their two westernmost provinces left. Through all that, my Senate popularity is still at a 6. I've been expecting the ultimatum from the Senate for a while now, but it hasn't happened. I haven't done all the Senate missions; in fact, I'd say I probably did only about half of them. It's looking like I might be able to snap up those 5 provinces, inundate Rome with spies to open the gate, and grab Rome in a single turn strike without provoking the war at all.

that's almost impassible, what you got to do for maximum senate pleasure is doing their missions but don't get to powerful, for ultimate people pleasure is get as powerful as you can.

I managed once to get to 8 points with the Senate. It was said that they loved me so much that they debated about calling me the third founder of Rome or just giving me the keys to the vestal virgins' rooms.
But just as I was about to gain that last point the Brutii went on the rampage gaining a whole lot of points. Suddenly I struggling to keep up and since I tried to keep the Brutii out of the loop I conquered too much and became too popular with the plebs. Damn! I was so close!

I would like to know if you somehow become 'Protector of Rome' if you gain that last 9th point.

it's funny what they say in their column is dependent on your popularity with the People, if that's high they say that they think your pop with the People is too high and a threat to them, if it's low they say that they question your purposes

    The highest Senate ranking reads:
The Senate considers you to be Romulus reborn, a veritable saviour of the Republic and the chief defender of Rome. Your name is a byword for virtue, dignity and the Roman way.
The lower ones are funnier, though.
No one in the Senate likes you. If you were charged with anything criminal or treasonous, everyone would believe it. Worse, they'd believe you'd actually done something far nastier but had managed to keep it hidden.

Members of the Senate refuse to recognise you in the street. Senators' wives pretend that you do not exist. Senators' slaves cross the road to avoid being near you. You are unpopular and unloved.

Many Senators openly praise your ancestors, and often express a wish that you would join them, and soon.
And the lowest populace rankings are also funny:
You are so unpopular that the plebeians cannot even be bothered to hurl ordure and insults at you as you walk by. A rotting fish head commands more popular respect and love.

The plebeians hate you. More than that, the plebeians hate all your friends. And their friends. And their pets, slaves and hangers-on. That's how unpopular you are.

Your popularity with the lower orders is a little underwhelming. When a plebeian shouts a greeting in your general direction, the second word is generally 'off'.

    GAH!

Vanya sez... Senate is merely a group of old men who like to sit around and pontificate all day long.

In the end, though, have weapon, keep head. At least until Vanya (or one of His minions) drops by to say hello...
