You can bribe armies without a leader and even with the increase in cost with v1.2 it's still my prefered method of getting rid of the rebels.

It does seem as though they're more frequent post-patch or perhaps it's just that I'm having to fight more of them since the cost issue does limit my bribing.

Overall, the changes to the rebels makes them more fun, but it does get annoying at times. I wish the rebel generation would just be a bit smarter and not have situations like having a stack with 2 peasants and a warband appear right next to my main troop marshalling city. The rebels bolted after the first volley of pila - my PC switching from the campaign to the tactical engine took longer than the battle itself!

This may sound like a ridiculous question but -

Do the rebels/enemy stacks have to be ON a road to disrupt trade, or just somewhere in the region ?

Am I storing up trouble just letting some rebel armies hide in mountain passes with no roads or are they just worth ignoring ?

Some of my regions simply aren't making enough money and this is the last thing I can think of

I think they just have to be in your province - anywhere - to disrupt trade. Although the closer they are to your town the more cash they disrupt.

If they aren't in a important/rich province and are instead somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I let them sit there unless I have a diplomat and enough cash to bribe them. Otherwise they aren't really worth the bother. However, judging by the frequency they are popping up at, I am seriously dreading the ramifications this may have on any Scythian Campaign I might endeavor in the future...

yes bribing has become way more expensive. a family member with army was 30.000 before the patch and now 400.000

Its ridiculous how expensive it is now, im offering bribes to rebel armies that consist of 2 units of town militia, 1 unit of naked fanatics and 1 unit of barbarian cavalry and they want 12000 denarii! for that! it means i have to constantly fight crap rebel armies and fight them personally as the auto for battles is so dumb id lose hundreds of men otherwise.

    Very annoying and unnecessary

From my test on 1.0 for my Economics Guide, they only affect land trade when they sit on the road. However, they affect sea trade no matter where they are so long as they are in the province.

I'm currently doing new stuff and updates for 1.2. However, I'm still stuck at calculating the exact trades since the values doesn't make sense. There were some patterns i've noted in 1.0 but i'll be redoing the tests for 1.2.

Hey now. We're doing just fine. I just took 17 provinces by 251 BC as Armenia.

Don't worry, Alicia, you're not completely alone.

I like to use them to ramp up those 16 year old gouvenators. I sometimes keep a kid in the area where they seem to show up and just go around stomping rebels. You end up with a cantadate for heir real fast.
