Default Basic Commands for a Basic Newbie

Being a newbie at Shogun: Warlord Edition (I picked it up 2 weeks ago for the price of 3 coffees), I've seen some things discussed here that have baffled me. I figured out how to combine 2 damaged units into 1 already, that was very helpful. However, 2 things elude me.

1.) Tax Rates. I've clicked everywhere on the koku info parchment, with all 3 mouse buttons, and nothing happens. What am I missing here?

2.) Retraining. How is this done? I tried dragging a unit counter from the strategy map onto the training button, tried dragging the unit's box onto the training button, tried dragging him into the castle both ways... nothing. I'd love to change or reinforce some of my units that are occupying 150% loyalty provinces without a compatible and depleted like unit to merge with.

Thanks in advance. My apologies if I missed it, I checked the first and last 20 pages of threads trying to find it before asking... and yeah, I've read the manual a few times, not that it's particularly helpful.

you read 20 pages of posts before asking ?! crazy! in a regular forum members dream kind of way, anyway enough rambling from grizzy and onto the questions

    1) Grizzly himself didn't discover this for many years, he did so by accident, where it says your koku amount, e.g 1000 koku, click on it and you shall see tax rates!

    2) First click on your training button (as if you were going to build a new unit) and then drag the depleted unit and place him in one of the training slots.

sorry i cannot be more easily understandable, the words don't come out on paper as clearly as they are in my head.

I just know how annoying it can be to answer the same question in a bazillion different threads, over and over and over. :D

I know whatcha' mean. I don't seem to be able to grab the little "wooden" counter on the Strategy map when I open up the Training button, and even when he's selected beforehand, he becomes de-selected (unit details disappear from that control panel at the bottom where the training button is housed) when I hit the Training button. I may try a reinstall anyway... I'm getting embarassed every time I open up my first few saves on accident. ;)

    Thanks for the help Grizzly!

I just recently posted this reply to Tashman:

You can retrain a unit by sending it to a province that has the necessary buildings to produce that type. On the next turn, open the unit training queue screen, then click on the unit on the map to select it and then grab the unit icon in the tray at the bottom of the screen and drop it in the training queue.

This will replenish the unit to full strength and provide any weapons or armor or honor upgrades that the province provides.

I routinely merge depleted units. I try to merge units of similar quality, but you can get 'free' upgrades by dropping an unarmored depleted unit onto an armored one - the combined unit will get the armor upgrade. If you drop an armored unit onto an unarmored unit you will lose the upgrade.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Don't drag the unit from the map, drag the unit rom the icon tray at the bottom

I know this is the penultimate newbie response, but...

    "That's what I'm doing."

Let's say I've got a Yari Ashigaru unit in a province with a castle and spear dojo. He's been there for several turns, being the garisson after conquering. 10 men left. I open the Training dialogue, works fine. But I can't select anything on the map in order to get their little square boxes on the bottom (the ones you drag to merge). I can click on a unit all day, click on every part of him, but it won't select as long as the Training dialogue is open. Likewise, if I select him first, opening the Training dialogue de-selects him. I've tried this with a vanilla S:WE install and with v.1.12.

Maybe it's something they "fixed" in the S:WE pack (as opposed to an original S:TW which was upgraded to WE later?)?

Will do screenshots tomorrow if that's not the case.

Well, 1.12 is the patch for old shogun while 1.02 is the patch for WE. That could be a problem.

Other than that, don't know what your doing wrong...reinstall perhaps.
