Default funniest scene in a movie

my penultimate scene comes from 'the kentucky fried move' which is a prequel to 'airplane' anyway, there's a scene where the damsel in distress is pointing out to the hero, all the bugs in the room while carrying on an inane conversation. but the eavesdropping just gets more and more ridiculous with each one she points out. and the third one is soooo over the top, i still to this day smile every time i think of that scene even though i first saw it years ago.

and me writiing out exactly what happens wouldn't come close to doing it justice so i won't even try.

    what's yours?
    indeed

In Young Frankenstein the monster played by PEter Boyle finds his way to the house of a blind man (Gene Hackman) who is very lonely and possibly gay. Gene slowly discovers that the monster is mute ("an incredibly large mute") and proceeds to make nice.

He offers him some soup, which he pours (remember he's blind) into the Peter Boyle's lap instead of the bowl, some wine (which is lost when they toast and touch goblets, but they break cause Gene has no depth perception).

Finally Gene offers Peter a cigar, but instead lights Peter's thumb.

As the monster runs screaming away, Gene calls out "wait come back, I was gonna make some expresso!"

    Absolutely perfect bit.

In 'planes, trains & automobiles' when steve Martin gets back to the helpdesk after getting all the way to his car to find it isnt there.

In Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - the ending, of course. When the Gweneth Paltrow (sp?) character, who has a single shot left in her camera (she's supposed to be an important reporter/photographer) and she takes the last picture...

I rather like the Saturday Night Fever spoof scene in Airplane.

It is almost 25 years old, but the original Beverly Hills Cop had some great scenes. The lines made that movie. I'd say the best "scene" was the valet scene and what happened shortly afterwards.

    Hands keys to valet:

"Can you put this in a good spot? 'Cause all of this **** happened the last time I parked here"

Then he gets into the building by saying this line in a feminine, lispy voice:

"Tell Victor that Ramon - -the fella he met about a week ago? - -tell him that Ramon went to the clinic today, and I found out that I have, um, herpes simplex 10, and I think Victor should go check himself out with his physician to make sure everything is fine before things start falling off on the man."
"Never in physical action had I discovered the chilling satisfaction of words. Never in words had I experienced the hot darkness of action. Somewhere there must be a higher principle which reconciles art and action. That principle, it occurred to me, was death." -Yukio Mishima

Politically totally incorrect, but Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man entering the museum to pick up some weaponry. The guilty grin on his face, his gratuitous violence in the midst of that sanctimonous Hollywood-Utopia - gives me lots of joyjoy feelings.

if we're limiting this to movies (funniest things i've seen have come from stand-up or sketch comedy, mostly), these three scenes stand out for me (probably as much because i saw them early on in my movie-watching career as anything else):

'the cave of caerbannog' scene from monty python and the holy grail (specifically the very instant where the rabbit leaps and decapitates "boris").

also, 'the black knight' scene from the same movie.

lastly, the scene in blazing saddles where lyle wants the negro chaingang to sing a "a good ole nigger work song". and they respond with an a capella rendition of cole porter's "i get a kick out of you". this aggravates the white overseers, who try to show the chaingang what a real negro worksong is, and sing portions of "swing low, sweet chariot'" and start performing a veritable minstrel show of "camptown races". when taggart shows up and asks "what in the wide, wide world of sports is goin' on here?", and calls the overseers, "a bunch of kansas city faggots!" i fell out of my chair with laughter!

there are other's i'm sure, those are the one's that come to mind.
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.

Almost any scene in "Whats up Doc" with Barbara Striesand and Ryan O'neill. Especally the scene in the dining room where they all end up under table as they drag Eunice out. I like this film so much, all my computers are named after the characters.

these two movies are rather obscure here in the states, 'the gods must be crazy' and 'the gods must be crazy II'. they are set in africa and center around a very primitive and very remote tribe that has had almost no contact with the rest of the 'modern' world. the first movie centers around what happens when an airplane drops an empty Coke bottle into the midst of this 'primitive' tribe. it's a good movie, but not the one that really made me laugh. the sequel, however, has one of the funniest bits in it i've ever seen.

it's the same tribe, but they've made a bit more contact with the modern world and the 'hero', one of the tribesmen, in the movie is pretty much convinced that the white man is pretty much nuts. the funny bit is when a white, more or less park ranger accidentally kicks a badger. the badger latches onto the offending boot and absolutely refuses to let go. this running gag goes on quite a while and it's hilarious. the badger is one of the most tenacious, feisty, persistent creatures you'd ever want to encounter and the lengths it goes to to 'kill' the offending boot are just comedy at its best.

there is also another scene in the same movie, where a woman is stranded out in this remote, hot, dry area where the tribe frequents. she's quite thirsty and finally comes to a small wooden water tower with a pump. the non-electrical, mechanical, pump handle is up on top of the tower, but the outlet for the water is down on the ground. there is also a pack of monkeys or small apes on the ground who also want a drink. the subsequent 'battle' to get water is also quite amusing.

these movies may be a bit hard to find in the states. i dont think they ever made the movie circuit, but they shld be available in most video stores if you look around. i highly recommend both!

oh, and blazing saddles is also one of my favorites. when alex karras knocks out a horse by punching it... or the campfire scene where the bad guys are sitting around eating beans.... quite good :)

and yeah, i also like the monty python stuff, but most of you have already mentioned the classic bits :)

Almost all of The Princess Bride; I couldn't choose just one bit and all of the comedy works better if you see it.

yeah, i saw 'the gods must be crazy' movies a long time ago. i remember really liking them, but i don't recall specific scenes :/

another couple of movie scenes i really liked:

    raising arizona
the fight scene in the trailer (where hi drags his knuckles on the ceiling).. lol omfg i still laugh out loud every time i think about it. and the bank robbery.. basically this whole movie, but those two scenes standout in my mind.

    big lebowski
also from the coen bros. the jesus bowling scene and the cash drop off scene.

Princess Bride is a cult clasic at our house. Everybody quotes it all the time. The Gods must be crazy movies show that it is the writing that counts, not the amount of money spent on the film. They were shot tor less than $250K each. That is less than the catering budjet for most movies.
Speaking of low budjet great movies, I recomend Napolean Dynamite. They spent only $400K and it has already returned $40mil. Lots of great bits strung together with little plot, but well worth watching a few times over.

I always thought that the torture scene at the end of Braveheart was rather amusing....

... but in all seriousness, I have to say the Every Sperm is Sacred song.

Hmmmmm I think the scene where Kelvin Klein eats Palin's fish in A fish called Wanda, that floored me.
