    Default Modding Temples

I'm certain this has been mentioned by somebody before but I can't find the post. Is it possible to make all the temples of one culture group upgradable by all other factions in that culture group, for example the Macedonians being able to upgrade (not to build initially but only to expand) a Seleucid Temple of Hephestus?

    Thanks

I think they can if it is the same type of temple (ie same bonus)

In theory, but if the descriptions for building classes are decided on the basis of culture, not faction, so two factions' descriptions for the same building always have to be the same if they're in the same faction.

Back on topic, try letting the appropriate factions be allowed to build every appropriate temple above level one. So only the Julii would be allowed to build a Shrine to Ceres, but all Romans could build the higher levels. Note that this will also allow all Romans to upgrade a level-one temple to Freyja, say, into a Temple of Ceres; in other words, any faction can upgrade any other faction's temple, provided one faction in its culture group has access to the same temple. Probably not altogether a bad thing, what with the AI's mildly annoying habit of leaving foreign shrines they can't upgrade hanging around indefinitely. It'll also most strongly affect larger cultural groups.

Incidentally, I'd recommend a different breakup of cultures than the one used by the game. Here are the groups I'm pretty sure of:

    1) Julii, Brutii, Scipii, S.P.Q.R.
    2) The Greek Cities, The Seleucid Empire, Macedon, Thrace, Egypt (which represents the Greek Ptolemaic successor-state—maybe you shouldn't let other Greeks upgrade its temples, however), Pontus (which also broke away when Alexander died, although it wasn't actually a successor-state—you can see its Greek heritage in its current selection of temples)
    3) Carthage, Numidia (they already have the same temples)
    4) Parthia (duh, it's monotheistic/dualist)
    5) Armenia (bears no resemblance to anything else, so I'm assuming)

The barbarians I'm not entirely sure about. Some of them share cultures and thus maybe gods, I think. I'd be inclined to mostly keep them separate.

Thanks, that was pretty much exactly what I was trying to do. I'll give it a go.
