I think I must have finished before they come then. Because I deliberately didn't build any Portuguese trading posts or churches (didn't want to become Catholic).

There are only 10 kinds of people: those who can read binary and those who cannot.
If Kenshin and Shingen had taken on Nobunaga they would have won. Kenshin had already proven that Samurai armies could whup Nobunaga. Anywaya I love playing as the Uesugi and laughing at the traders. All I need are some good warrior monks and Shingen out of the way and I will be fine....

With WE/MI it's building a church that turns you Christian. I've heard others argue otherwise, but I've confirmed it time and again for myself so ... believe what you want. I build Portuguese trading posts all the time without becoming Christian.
That's an interesting trick with the queue. In my thousand plus games I'd never discovered that. I tend not to build Portuguese stuff after the arrival of the Dutch anyway, but it's still nice to know.

I'm going to try some similar queue-fooling with Mines and Mine Complexes this week. If it "works," I'll post it with the subject of 'MINE CHEAT' so everyone knows if it's polite to use in common competition.Originally Posted by TogakureOjonin

I agree that building trading posts has no effect on Christianity if you don't have any Christianity yet. It's Winter 1575 in my S:TW (vanilla edition) campaign. I've been building both trading posts ever since I got the Dutch to come trade with me too. None of my provinces have any Christianity percentage, despite having Portuguese and Dutch trading posts in many for several years and owning all of Japan but the Hojo and easternmost Uesugi domains. (I killed both of those daimyo by cutting off the province he was in and then invading, laying seige to him, and breaking seige with an insanely overpowering force. We're talking Auto-Resolved, tens of thousands of men against his 254 men, I lost 3 guys.So no Hojo Horde! )
That said, it may accellerate the growth of Christianity. A Church in one province will begin to gain converts in adjacent provinces (I think it's actually more like, "If PROVINCE has a Christianity of x% (10% maybe??) then adjacent provinces will gain y% (1%??) Christianity" in general), ISTR it doesn't matter if the adjacent province is yours or not, Christian or Buddhist. A Priest will markedly gain converts too (he probably uses the same routines as a Church, perhaps with a modifier like 1/2 or something, making him a Mobile Field Church). It's possible that the trading posts will accelerate the rate of conversion if and only if a church or priest is having an effect on its province. I thought the WE manual said that trading posts converted people, but apparently they don't. Funny, I could've sworn...Whups! Just did.
