Guys, we all know some dishonourable players are lurking out there, this 'event' would absolutely RUIN Shogun.

you can do that now, seeing as the units are hidden until you get close enough - the same would apply to ninjas.

in fact, its even less of an issue, considering battlefield ninjas are weak[er] when confronted. i'd rather track down and terminate a pocket of concealed ninjas then do the same for a group of monks.

    ShadowKill,
I certainly hope you are correct, but how close do you have to get to detect a ninja unit?
Do you have to walk into them?
Guess we will have to wait and see...

Why I'm worried, I've played 2150, where some units have limited cloaking, and you have to blunder into them to see them! can be a real pain to find. especially if the owner is lying doggo (hiding)

What I worry about is some of the larger maps with forest at the corners, how long are you going to keep trying to find the ninja before you get annoyed and abort the game? - (matters little about timers really)
If you have only a few men left, and you keep marching them all over they're going to get exhausted, easy pickings for an elite unit!
it's going to take a real carefull search, and that is what would annoy me to the max!

Well rooting out hiddne ninjas (as well as other troops) is what cavalry is all about, folks.

As for using ninjas et al in the multiplayer game, we'll see if they're even available before I make any comment.

Have a look at the new screenshots posted by Zaxxon under the Mongol invasion board. Shows Ninja and the MAster swordsman (I guess) in action. WWW.bluesnews.com

Solypsist makes a good point here, we are automatically assuming that ninjas and master swordsman are going to be available online. They may be purely for the campaign setting and not be available in multi-player for all the reasons that have been pointed out.

    Yabusama,

the new units will be available online. I asked the Shogun that question and you can read his answer here:

    Shogun's answer

So, online, do as almost all serious players do. Don't host with timer, and don't join a timed battle.

    Yes Erado San,
but if your opponent is being a pain in the posterior, how long will you painstakingly search every inch of a map before you give up? - defeated by a unit you never saw, and never fought!

I can pessimistically think of a dozen ways to be a nuisance with ninja, follow the unit trying to find them for example,

We will have to wait and see how hard to find them when we get them...

In 2150 spending half an hour after the battle trying to find the last hidden unit, where you have to step on them if they're cloaked, is not uncommon.

    Drives me nuts!

OK Erado your right, I just have this feeling that ninjas/swordsmen could turn out to be a nightmare as Barocca said.

Which leds us to the need for Battlefield shinobi and Battlefield Geishas.

Regarding BF ninjas - I got this image of trees and rocks tip-toeing around the battlefield and now I can't get it out of my head.

    johnmcd,
    batwings!
    uh-oh...batwings - omigosh...
no, not that, anything but that...
    lol.

Battlefield Geisha, hmmm, I can see suggestions for 'employing' a Battlefield Geisha getting right out of hand,
    ie:- can she be captured?

    Rocks and Trees tiptoeing,
Ah, Gregoshi, I'm not happy with that comment,
'cause I can't get the image out of MY head now...

You'll all have to forgive Gregoshi, he was exposed to far too much PinkPanther and Monty Python at a very impressionable age,
Over at Clan Doragon we've come to "appreciate" his eccentricities...

Shadowkill, yes i agree, friendlies will be the way to go for the first couple of weeks.

Saddens me that there will be 2 versions, using different units.

Basically my concerns can be summed up thus:-

I don't want to see shogun ruined by lamers, employing a unit type in a way the developers may have never imagined.
