Question "Fixed missile collision code to reduce friendly fire casualties"(1.2 readme)

    Longshanks: "Archers."
English Commander: "Beg your pardon sire, but won't we hit our own troops?"
    Longshanks: "Yes...but we'll hit theirs as well!,we have reserves...attack."

    Howdy all...

Could somebody please explain where the collision code files are kept within the data directory?I'm desperate to revert friendly fire to its former state, pre 1.2.

After spending some time rummaging about I cant seem to locate the file/s required, please point me in the right direction.

    EDIT

I'm not having a moan(not much of one anyway),but I think it may have been a good idea on CA`s part to add a menu switch (as in Medieval) so friendly fire could be enabled on or off. That way they could have spent the patch time improving and finishing areas of the game that were rushed oringinaly.Instead of having to waste time re-writing the missile collision code(CA must have been happy with how it was before...and frankly so was I)...all because of an extremely vocal minority present on the forums.

friendly fire is still in, but archers wont fire if they would hit their own troops. I understand that sometimes you would want them to, but no way to fix that I'm afraid.

Why dont you uninstall patch 1.2 and then reinstall it peice by peice leaving out any files you dont want.

And i think what CA meant by friendly is if you have troops standing imediatly in front of your archers then the archers wont fire right into their backs like they did before. I cant even tell you how many casualties i took simply because my archers were too close to my other units. But that doesnt happen anymore with 1.2.

I thought about reinstalling 1.2 bit by bit too try and find the files that changed the collision code...but because i don't really know what im looking for or how many files affect the collision code....it all seems rather daunting and pointless.

I agree its great that missiles no longer kill troops stood too close, but they don't seem to kill friendlies at all anymore....no matter how far away they may be.

Please somebody must be clued up enough to know where the collision code can be found........i beg of you help me.

Collision code should be part of the .exe. I doubt you would find it in a supporting file.

You seem to completely misunderstand what has been changed. FF has been changed to "MTW style," not away from it. You still can and will hit friendlies. But your friendlies won't massacre each other when standing together. Friendlies won't fire into the back of the head of someone directly in front of them. Instead, they hold fire. They can still fire into melee, although FAW will not target into melee now (as it did before.) Like MTW they will try not to fire into their own directly unless ordered. So you can order them to fire into melee where there are friendlies fighting.

Matching a movie...ugh.... But even the movie scene you quote illustrates the problem with your concept of how it works. Fire at will would not allow them to fire into their own men in the movie. It takes direct orders to do so. And you can still do that in RTW, just as you could do it in MTW. So I fail to see your point. Nevertheless, if I had an idea how to change it to your liking I would gladly tell you.

It was not a vocal minority, but a vocal majority. Most of our casualties were coming AFTER the enemy were dead. It was our pursuers being killed, when even the dumbest real life archer would have stopped firing by then. The original FF was a very dumbed down version, we objected to it.

    P.S.
I still get friendly fire casualties among my men in melee when archers have been fired into engaged enemy units. I don't know why you would not.

    Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
