    Exclamation WDF with protectorate?

Hi there I play v1.2 RTW as Julii and made Carthage my protectorate. While Carthage was my protectorate (ally) my treasury increased significantly (due to received tribute), but when a war broke between us, suddenly in financial scroll I see that next year I should get like 8000 d. profit, but I get 6000 d. less: only 2000. What the hell? Is it me who pays Carthage tribute or don't I understand a thing?

Once you went to war with them the protectorate status was revoked. At that point, you lost not only the tribute you had been receiving from them, but also trade rights as well. The combination of these two factors likely account for the significant reduction in income. Just out of curiosity, was it you who attacked Carthage and started the war, or the other way around? I've seen numerous protectors attack their protectees, but never in reverse.

Protectorates still baffle me. Yesterday playing as the Britons, Germany became a Protectorate (Why did they even accept? They had 8 regions and I had maybe 9!). I had been fighting the Gauls (who only had one region and would not accept the same deal at all ) who were allied with the Germans.

So when the Germans accept the deal, I get the diplomacy info automatically saying a ceasefire had been declared between me and Gaul. Well, that's unnacceptable so I go ahead and attack gaul, I get the neutral faction bit but then I get the alliance in tatters screen regarding Germany. What alliance? Their my colonialized slaves! What would I care who they want to be allied with? I own them!

They were still on my list as a protectorate but my tribute dropped from 27,000 the first turn to 2,000 from then on.

So their allegiance lies with their friends, the Gauls who have one region? I think it's a stupid system if that's the way it works, but I suspect you're right...

"Gee, should we face utter destruction from the Britons who have a full stack in the Gauls last region or do we live and just pay tribute to the Britons for now?"

What were they thinking? That the Gauls maybe had a WMD up there sleeve?

An empire can't be allied with two members that are at war with each other. So when you allied with the Germans (via protectorate status), that got you the peace with the Gauls.

However, when war breaks out again, they can't only remain allied with one empire. It doesn't use any sort of strength calculations - whoever makes the offensive move has their alliance broken. So if you thought there was any way to 'goad' the Gauls into attacking you, that would have been the best way to go. That way, the Germans would have broken their alliance with the Gauls.

    Question Re: WDF with protectorate?

I mean my protectorate was Carthage and it payed me a tribute of about 6000 d. per turn, but when it attacked me, suddenly I seem to be paying 6000 d. per turn to Carthage. Is this a bug, because it's a complete nonsence? I looked in diplomatic scroll but no I wasn't anyone's protectorate, but still my money dissapears somewhere, although in finansial scroll it says that my income is 6000d, but damn I pay that money to someone, not receive it. Can someone help me?
