ok, i love a pic of a good looking woman as much as the rest of you, but the situation in the babe thread is getting rather serious. we all know, to start, that the Org has had some problems recently. the babe thread is that and more. all this remote linking, with pics coming from several different locations, is seriously crawling that thread. twice i had to kill my browser because of the interminable load. this wasnt from banners or ads or cookies; it was from the pictures themselves.
and btw, big john, you were correct about that other problem with the banner ad being local to my browser. i dont use firefox, but i do use mozilla.
ok, back to the topic. guys, when soly ran his thread, he put his pics up on his own server (or one he rented). whatever he was using was fairly fast and fairly reliable. he also cleaned it out regularly, thus keeping the pic count down.
now, i'm not the admin here, nor even a moderator in this forum, so i'm not laying down any rules here, but the smart person realizes that when a problem of this nature crops up, he takes some action so that a RULE doesnt have to be created. thus, i'm suggesting, that we as viewers and posters in that thread, do some self-regulating here.
as i was trying to load page 3 in that thread, i watched the load process. the pics from 'gonzo (whatever it was)' loaded pretty fast. the ones from 'photoforum (or whatever it was)' were very slow and even hung near the end. this is one of the problems with remote linking; you dont always know what their bandwidth is. also, as someone else mentioned in the babe thread, soly cropped and resized and lowered resolutions in his pics to keep file sizes down.
thus, i'm making some suggestions here. if possible, dont link directly to the site where you found the original picture. copy it and save it and if possible, put it on a FAST server with plenty of bandwidth. then link to it from there. two, crop the picture size, if possible, and lower the resolution, always wth the idea to lower the overall file size. where neither of these is possible, just post the link to where the original picture is found and let those that wish go there and see it. and lastly, after a week or two, remove the picture altogether or replace the actual picture with just a link.
guys, none of us wants to see extra rules and regulations imposed here, so, do you part and perhaps we can avoid this.
K.
