Unhappy When you get big AI gets stupid...

Why does the enemy gang up on the human player? I mean I am big, but under 60% yet. And this does not make sense. The strong Spanish attacked, but got a bloody nose. The puny English attacked (who could not get back their rebelled territories) and got a bloody nose. Even the Papacy attacked, but at least we know the bastard... Only the Danish haven't attacked...

But all this does not make sense... I either end the war and the game by killing them or play the war of attrition, which is boring. My problem is that I don' want to win the whole world with less then ten types of units. Even though I see that it is completely feasible on Early, Hard and one should not bother building any improvements, because Szekely, HA, UM, Spear, Jobbagy, RK can do it all - I would love to build up provinces and bring Swiss Halbediers in battles.

I would be nicer if when I get big the AI would not rush head on (and ruin the game) but rather would get money and troops bonuses, like extra farm income and maybe few free high level units...
    Any thoughts?

Kind of a ladder model? The bigger you get the better they get?
Im not sure if farm upgrades would neccecarily be realistic, but maybe higher moral units to represent them trying to halt the mighty empire.
A lot could be done if there was a more advanced diplomacy and trade model. Rather than the AI just wholesale being aggressive they would begin to cut you out of the political/economioc loop.
But onto the main point, the last few campaighns, Ive been extending the game by basically idulging in little diversions, razing even well built up provinces that I capture when I have a blood thirsty king, spawning nothing but bishops to send out on conversion campaighns if my king is pious, that kind of thing. A campaighn or so ago, me and my brother played "a king at a time", where we'd try and make each kingshiop distinctive from the last which slowed down the Empires growth substantially.
Just little things like that, that hold you back articficially.
