I was defending a bridge last night against a Scipii army and the AI actually formed its legion's in Testudo to cross the bridge....its the first time I've ever seen the AI do this and after I routed the first few units that crossed the bridge the rest of the army decided it was a no win situation and with drew from battle. Its makes a change from the usual charge all the units across and get cut to pieces tactic the AI normally uses

Yea, I've had the AI form the testudo when I was bombarding it with onagers.
Not such a smart move one would think!

I once had the Scipiones come at me (playing Gauls) in the classic battle order: a line of Velites followed by lines of Hastati, Principes, and Triarii at the rear. It was impressive.

every time ive played against roman ai they allways form the roman armies the correct way, but ive never ever seen the AI use the Testudo formation

When I play Rome they A) charge or B) stand still in close formations and no apperant order. I've never seen them form testudo when I play them.

The AI always forms tuesdo's when I am using arrows or artillery on them. Have you tried the 1.2 patch.

Whenever they have the superior troops they line up like that from my observations. When you outclass them they go for 1 line or 2 lines with skirmishers in front.

they already formed testudo vs me before the patch, mostly when my foresters were pounding them with arrows killing 1600 romans in a battle loosing 2 due own fire
