Problems to and from battles

I am running Version 1.0 and experienc problems either going from Strategic Screen to Battles or back again after a long contested battle.

The game simply stops and I am back at the Windows screen. (XP Pro)

Is this a known problem with this version, and thus the 1.1 and subsequent 2.1 patches will fix, or has nobody else experienced this?

I'm no tech expert, but regardless you should d/l and install the patch - not only does it address some bugs but the gameplay is improved.

When I had a similar problem I ran some routine maintenance (defrag, cleanup) and installed a newer version video driver software, and the prob went away.
