Well, listen what happened to me: I was playing as Julii, v1.2 hard/hard, it was about 260bc and the Gauls suggest that I give them back 3 cities (2 in nothern Italy and 1 in west of Alps) for a ceasefire. I thought smiling that the AI just give a damn as always , offered them to give me 10000d, but what the hell-a full stack with a good general (5 stars) attacks my 500 men (2 hastati, 1 velite, 1 equite, 2 barb merc) right away and beats crap out of my army with a tactful flanking. Damn I couldn't believe my eyes!
