From the School of Rock concert pictures I posted in the Gallery III thread:
The image works well because all my desktop icons are on the left side in the black area.

slightly OT (sorry bout that), how often do you feel the need to change your desktop ?
(I mean, ofc, the background).
I've got thingies to rotate them every 15 mins (on windows) and every 2 hours (on linux - cause I've got fewer desktops on linux). I get incredibly bored of the same thing and that happens incredibly fast too ;)

i've a little program called panorama32 running that cycles between a bunch of pics.
i think i have it set to change pics every 2 hours. this is the one it's on right now:

now i'm here, and history is vindicated.
I can never find enough nice pics to use one of those programs. I usually leave mine up for a couple weeks. Left one up for 5 months.
BTW, Big_John, why did you leave the Recycle Bin on your desktop?
why not? i like using my desktop as a temp workspace when i'm creating/editting files of various sorts.
emptying the recycle bin has never given me any grief.

Sat - You have the GIMP? Do you hate it as much as I do?
I use it for my skinning. Methinks it sucks.
Also, don't ask about the pick choice.

Pardon my ignorance but what is GIMP? I have tried skinning my windows many times but StyleXP always expires on me.
Hmm... I'm by no means an expert with it, but from the things I've done with it I'd say I really like the GIMP. Plus it's free and there's no beating that.Originally Posted by Capo of Arabia

I am not on my good computer, with good wallpapers, but right now I think it is an F-14 being chased by a Phantom. It is from a game....
I have 4.5 columns of icons and clean house when I reach 5. Much more cluttered than what you guys have. I rotate every month at least, I will try to remember to bring my wallpaper down to this computer tomorrow. I get most of them from PCGamer demo discs. I think the more important question is what is your screensaver?

I set my Active Desktop to "View As Webpage" so no icons are visible. All my icons are on the Task Bar, which I set to "Autohide." I set the background color to black (the most "efficient" background color, technically). This provides for a very clean area for a picture/pictures. I'm constantly changing them, but lately I've been using Java applet-affected images rather than static images. I use a variety of applets to affect any picture. I can make a picture look like it's underwater, or getting rained on, or slowly (or quickly) changing color hues (very cool with anime or pictures of paintings). I have many, many java applets that I've picked up here and there.
Currently I have the picture from "Stormbringer," the sixth book in the Elric of Melnibone saga (painting by the awesome Michael Whelan) on my desktop, with a java applet acting on it that very slowly changes the picture's hue. I don't have webspace so I can't post it here (webspace is required because there are multiple non-image files involved, in addition to the image file).
For those interested in a nice tool for generating Java applets that apply very cool visual effects to images, check out this internationally friendly site:
http://anfyteam.com/index.html
Look at the image on the page. Run your mouse over it. Click it. This is a (very garish) example of but one of the applets. It can be applied to any image ... the possibilities are endless, as there are dozens of parameters that you can play with to control how an applet affects an image, and many different applets, affecting whatever picture you want ... very cool stuff.

One of my desktop images.
I usually use Frank Miller's stunning artwork as I'm a big fan and I like a black background.
