Again the problem is that when the sultan dies, a civil war starts immediately. No matter who is the successor. The biggest problem is that the civil war takes away about 35% of my men and some very important border territories (like Rum where my Janissary production line is). This also means that the french and their evil chums (as well as any neutral borders) get agressive and another civil war begins as Im too weak to defend myself in some battles..
Well, are your provinces well garrisoned? Are there adequate amount of happiness buildings? Do you have muslim majority provinces? Are your provinces properly connected thru sea and land?

When the ruler dies the new ruler gets to be placed to the "capital" ie. one of the homeland territories (with the Turks it is Rum, I think). That means that suddenly some of the territories are far from the padisah and can rebel instantly. So try to withdraw your sultan slowly to your core territory and make sure that everyone is happy. Do you have screenshots? Savegame? Do you play vanilla or VI? Well, try some of this and good luck! :)
