Default How do I keep unlocked nations ?

    Hi,

    a short question:

Do I need anything else than the savefiles (e.g. the SAVES folder) to keep the unlocked nations if I have to reinstall the game ?

    Cheers,

Erm....i'm not understanding your question...do you mean 'how do you keep the unlocked fractions unlocked after a reinstall?'

I imagine you are talking about the non playable factions, that have been made playable. If that is indeed what you are talking about, then just make a back up of your descr_strat file.

I have a habit of making 2 backup folders, the first has good unmoified copies of any files I am going to mod, the second has the latest tested good copy of any modded file.

Exactly. So that I don't have to replay Prologue and a Roman family-game before unlocking the other ("not-need-to-be-modded") factions.

Maybe this question was just too simple

I gues I just have to keep the savegames. But some games need special files to be kept, oterhwise they don't recognize the old savegames after a kleen reinstall.

Well in the case of allowing you to skip the Prologue, you will want to keep a copy of your preferences file.

I know an easy way to skip the stupid prologue. Just start playing it, and exit it. Then imperial campaign is unlocked, because it tricks the game into thinking you've done it. This only works on v1.0 though, i think. As for the keep all fractions unlocked, that's easy. Just go to this link, and download the all fractions mod.

    All fractions mod

It even let's you play as SPQR!!

It works in all versions, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 as well as the RTR mod. The reason I know for sure that it works in 1.2 & 5.2, is because I had trouble installing patch 1.2, and the only way out of it that I could find was to completely uninstall, then reinstall the game, then install the patch, so I had to start, then exit the Prologue to start playing an Imperial Campaign again. I know it also works with RTR 5.2 as I had use it to get past the Prologue after downloading 5.2.

The thing is though, with saving the preferences.txt file, you won't have to edit it again to get rid of the green arrows, or to change to minimum UI etc. So by backing up that file, not only can you skip the prologue, but any other changes you have made to it, won't have to be changed again either. That's why I have now made a back up of mine. If however you haven't made any other changes, then sure, just start prologue, hit the Esc key, quit, and restart.

Why did they include that damn prologue anyway? Most people complain about it being boring and/or too hard.

For my part the prologue was fun to play (once).

What really bothers me why they included this "you have to play 6 hours before allowed to safe". I had to start it twice because I hadn't the time to play long enough on this evening to get to the saving-point.

And, yes of course: A tutorial is optional. Forcing you to play it after a re-install again is more then questionable.
