Thread: SPQR mod for RTW v1.2

Default SPQR mod for RTW v1.2

Anyone who is unhappy with RTW v1.2 should do themselves a favor and try the SPQR mod created by LT1956. He has played the campaign out to 70 moves with each faction to make sure there are no CTDs. I spent all day yesterday playing SP campaign with it, and I'm very impressed. The improvements cover both the strategic and tactical gameplay, and the unit skins. LT1956 has made the gameplay a lot more like what many here have requested, and this mod has me playing the battles again.

I made a copy of my unmodified RTW v1.2 folder tree, and then installed SPQR mod on that tree and created a new shortcut to the desktop for the RomeTW.exe. Checkout the SPQR mod for RTW v1.2 at TWC.

I just had the best battle I ever had in an RTW SP campaign. I'm at 248 BC in a Julii campaign using SPQR mod. The battle was 1000 Romans commanded by my best general attacked by 2700 Gauls under two captains, and it was a fearsome battle which must have lasted 20 minutes. I was just barely able to win it, but lost my general along with 800 men. The Gauls lost about 1600. I had the standard Roman formation which the AI sets up for you during deployment of first line hastai maniples, principe maniples in a second line ready to fill the gaps and triarii in the third line. I just wish I could watch a replay of this great battle.

One problem I noticed on the strategy map is that Carthage despite having plenty of ships and naval superiority over Scippi has sent 6 full stacks to a desert region where there is nothing rather than to Sicily where they are needed, and is therefore being pushed out of Sicily. Concerning naval power, I'm totally blockaded by Gaul ships now, and it will take quite a lot of investment in ships for me to break the Gaul's naval power. I can't make that investment right now because of heavy losses in the land battles. I've failed to complete the last four Senate missions because the AI factions are too strong in those areas. I'm playing on medium/medium difficulty with large units. The battle music is great as well, but I'll leave it to you to guess where it's from.

The fall of Lilybaeum did trigger a respone by Carthage and they invaded in force, and took back two of the five cities on Sicily. Some of their armies that were in the desert are now moving up to the coast.
