Multiplayer forum may be a better place to ask this as I'm sure there might be some vet's there who have either lost against or won with Gaulish armies.

Multiplayer is more of a game of strategy than a game of units. Defend your weaknesses and exploit the opponents.

So far the only good tip I've ever heard about using the Gauls is...Don't use Gauls. Honestly they just seem to have been put in this game for the sole purpose of getting beat down, and bad. Especially in Single Player. Now I'm sure one could devise a way to make a decent winning strategy to win with them, either on multi-player or single player, but the process would likely take a long time and be highly dependent on who you're fighting.

Errm in single players they are not THAT hard, they have the advantage of their troops being very easy to replace and being cost effective and it doesnt' take very high tech to complete their line up along with the temple bonus which will let ur unit start with 3 experience lvl... yes they are harder than the Romans but certainly there are harder factions around.

In terms of multi though it's a lot more problematic, I would guess that they would be better in low money games as they can put together good armies on a relatively low budget but can't really get much better.

If i'm any more help than the, errrm, not-so-enthusiastic replies others have given the gauls shoul deploy like this:

    -------------------Wardogs-------------------
    -------------------Wardogs-------------------
    ---------Naked fanatics-Naked fanatics---------
    -----------Druids-Swordsmen-Druids-----------
    ---------Druids-Chosen swordsmen-Druids---------
    -----Barb cav--Forester wb-Forester wb--Barb cav-----
    Barb Noble cav--Forester wb-Forester wb--Barb Noble cav
    Forester wb General Forester wb
    Forester wb

The wardogs charge the enemy cav, while the fanatics charge the enemy infantry. Hopefully the enemy has not got their formation together yet and they may cause some severe casualties. They will die in the end but you should move your entire formation to any land advantage and scout the land.
you could move your formation into the enemy or you could wait. Either way all you have to do is attack, draw back, attack, draw back until all your troops are spent or the enemy is dead. Keep the foresters firing and don't forget to warcry!

a good plan arrowhead, but very seceptable to artillery and you should worry about friendly fire from those foresters. mabey you should start the charge withe nobel cavalry instead of wardogs, if there front is heavy infantry then wardogs are screwed, but nobel cavalry could make a decent dent which you flood with fanatics.

but i never use the gauls so these are just blind guesses

if anything the key to the gauls defeats seem to be from lack of armor.

the only reason the gauls are good in single player is they reproduce like rabbits! they seem to always have a full stack on hand. but man to man most other factions could beat it

All most all formations are vunerable to artillery and Nobels are supposed to protect flanks.

The gauls are my fave faction and I have played with them extensively.
