Thread: Reinforcements Delayed?

    Default Reinforcements Delayed?

Ive been playing my 2nd long Campaign as the Greeks recently and noticed a strange occurance. In almost every battle the reinforcements of both sides are delayed and sometimes show up in the end. This is an interesting addition but It shouldnt happen so often because it mean I have to fight a 2nd battle in the same spot on the same turn, which really annoys me. Anyone else experienced this while playing Greeks or another faction?

I think there is a calculation as to when reinforcements should arrive based on distance to battle and terrain.

Isn't this caused by the program checking how many units your system can display at any one time without causing a serious slowdown? There's a setting in the preferences.txt which you can change from false to true about displaying unlimited units - but it could result in seriously choppy battles depending on the settings etc.

Someone clever please jump in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes. Credit A. Saturnus for the idea. Seems like it at least from a players' point of view since I haven't encountered multiple armies since the suggestion.

I always get my reinforcements instantly and the AI as well (though this in small chunks, I haven't encountered multiple armies as I've said before). I don't allow the AI to control armies though so they are waiting at the red boundary line all the time as long as I have 20 units max.

Am I wrong about the timing calc then? I've seen reinforcements become available at different times but nothing near the end of a battle. I definitely have no max unit slowdowns.

I think that Quietus is close to the mark. I have found that if you allow computer controled reinforcements and you have a lot of stacks you get some delayed, depending on your systems ability to display a lot of units.
MTW it's not a game; it's a part time job.

ahh ok that makes sense. My computer handles MP battles with over 10k troops quite well, but two 2000 men armies vs my 1500 man army doesnt load? Does anyone know what preference.txt line I should alter to fix this?
    thanks

Well that sucks, I'd rather have a choppy battle at the start then have a watered down battle,. is there any way to remove such a silly and stupid restriction?

The other day my reinforcements were delayed, when they were finally 'let on' to the battlefield the general unit was the first on and where does he emerge?, right into the bloody flank of the enemys spearmen!, I couldn't even order him to withdraw as for some stupid frigging reason they have to cross the entire bloody map and exit out of the battle at the far side, so I lost one of my best generals because of this stupid rule.

    Bah!

tbh it is a great idea to delay reinforcements when it is above the system limit. It is the best way of avoiding poor performance in a game I have ever seen.
