Default Sap and the Siege tower

I was trying to get in a few turns before going to work. My Roman Faction (Brutii) was attacking Athens. I sent in a group to sap at the walls on my left flank. Without paying enough attention, I ordered a siege tower to attack the same section of wall. When the tunnel work was finished and the defenses started to crumble, my tower went with them...

Ouch....don't worry mate, i'm sure we've all made that mistake at some point in our RTW lives. I can tell you i have....three times....problem was though, i send my best units in first, in other words, the uber expensive and time consuming Spartan hoplites (they take two turns to make). Complete and utter mess when that happens....

Anyone ever try to get the tower through the sap afterwards?

I also love when the sap takes out enemy units on the wall.

"hey, look Spartacus, there are some peltasts running into a hole right in front of us. Should we be worried?"

    "Nah, they're just hunting moles."

To your question, I don't think it works. I never tried it with a tower, but I did try with artillery, and they will not move through the gap, in either direction.

As to the sap taking out enemy, I had that happen the very first time I used a sap. An enemy unit was marching across the wall section when it started going down, taking about half the unit with it. I was laughing for about 5 minutes.

The only problem with people falling in the hole when you've sapped the wall is that they do a road-runner, and walk in thin air for a second or two, before remembering that the laws of physics command them to fall to their deaths.
