this is a bit of an internet hoax (as far as anyone can tell, this has nothing to do with any research done at cambridge). the interesting thing is that people never stop to think about the limited nature of this lexical phenomenon (i think these things are called memes). it seems to work well in english (although, context plays a large role i think), but what about other languages with similar scripts, like french? what about other scripts? what about hebrew.. don't they leave vowels out in the script? how would memes work then? what about cyrillic? what about agglutinative languages like turkish where words can get crazy long? and obvioulsy this has no relevance to logographic languages like chinese.
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.

The language thing isn't what's important I think...just how the mind takes in information. People always say it shows spelling doesn't matter but it is harder to read than regular text and spelling errors always jump out and distract you.

Another interesting fact is that when someone reads outloud, their eyes are 8-10 words ahead of the word they are saying.

Heard and seen before, guess it isn't all that amazing but yeah, it does look kind of weird to be able to decipher such utter gibberish without actual effort

Does this also work with written text though ?
Maybe we're all just trained because of all the misspellings on the internet.

    Have you just been dumped?

I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.
