Thread: Governor killed during riot

    Default Governor killed during riot

I have installed SPQR mod, so I'm not sure this is 1.2 feature or the mod's.

I was playing Seleucid Empire yesterday, and had a fine young lad as a governor of one city( a few couple of stars, management and influence each, and not over age 30, probably ). In the end of my turn my spy entered the city(it has no spy before) and I heard some dying sound. Then, what? The city was rioting, both the governor and the spy were killed!

First I have suspected AI's assassin, but have no clue of him anywhere. Also I suppose the killing and rioting happened in the end of my own turn. I pressed the End Turn button, but my characters moving around their predesignated path, but before switching to enemies' turn.

Family tree says he died tragically or something similar.

Has anyone noticed this in normal 1.2? I'm just curious.

Yes, i have seen this feature in unmodded RTW 1.2... actually since vanilla RTW.

I have also had some generals killed in the very same turn a plague appears, as victims of a flood, earthquake, volcano... you name it!

What?? Sign above the dotted line?? of course!

I personally like the feature, gives you a bit more instability, flavour and fear.

Yes, your governors can die in a riot...you'd *think* that safe behind the protective walls of their palace, and protected by their personal bodyguard, that they'd be safe from a few pitchfork-wielding, brick throwing plebian scum...sadly this is not the case.

I tend to pull the governor out the first sign of unrest, after discovering that a governor being killed seems to be completely random...since I have a small problem with an 8 star general with +5 law & +3 public security, and 96 personal bodyguards getting killed by a flying horse turd...they go on extended visits to the countryside whenever the city gets uppity.

Of course there are some nice bonuses resulting from putting down an insurrection, so if you have a particularly crappy family member you might want to parade him about with a full garrison army to occupy newly conquered cities, if he survives the riots he'll gain some trait lines which will turn him into a one man pacification machine, a very useful man to have around when your going on campaigns to distant lands.

Possibly, he was caught walking unaware of the unrest.

Or he tried to talk to the angry people and someone was just uber-angry.

That is the way I take it too...
