    Default Weight Loss thread.

Some patrons in the backroom expressed an interest in a weight loss competition, so I'm starting this thread as a place to brainstrom, sign up, and to report progress once it gets going. I'll help out with the organisation. If there's enough interest, I'll sticky it.

Signing up. 5'9" and around 175 pounds. Exact morning weights ought to be recorded whenever this begins and updated every 3 days or so.

Who here is interested in team competition? Team USA/UK/Canada etc..

Please write down your preferred method of scoring, whether it be pounds lost, BMI, etc..

I'll go with plain old pounds lost.

To lose weight, lift weights. You lose fat not weight.

Well I decided that I would lose some weight this year... but I also decided to wait until after Easter have a final chocolate indulgence and then launch into getting healthy... no point sabotaging oneself and I needed the data to figure out my average weight over the two weeks before hand.

I bought a set of scales that measure mass and fat % (to 0.1%), as the human body can vary by about 2 kg over the day I have been measuring up.

So as of yesterday 27th of March.
So my average weight for the last two weeks is: 91.84 kg / 202 pounds
And my average body fat is: 20.3%
    Height: 183cm / 6ft

My aims are to lose 4kg of body fat or get to 15% body fat by my child’s birth in July.

And 8kg of body fat or get to 12% body fat by my brothers wedding in December.

A secondary goal is to gain muscle at about a rate of 1kg for every 2kg of fat loss, but the primary goal is to remove the gut.

How by getting rid of things. No I use the concept of adding to ones diet. However for the first 6 weeks I will not buy chocolate (will drink chocolate flavoured milk), not eat chips/crisps nor touch soft drinks. Also I will be drinking a cup of water between all other drinks (like spacing at a party if you understand drinking in moderation regime). Drink more smoothies and eat more fruit/

Now their is no secret to weight loss. It is simply energy expended > then energy consumed. However there are foods and actions that can increase ones metabolism.

If you do aerobic types of exercise (walking, running etc) your metabolism tends to increase for the period of exercise and about 4 or so hours afterwards.

If you do anaerobic exercise (weights, pushups, chin ups etc) your metabolism will increase for about 48 hours afterwards.

Some foods like calcium in dairy products will increase your metabolism as well. So by swapping smoothies, milkshakes and flavoured milk for softdrinks you will consume less calories and increase your metabolic rate.

Typical smoothie I make for my wife is:
    1 whole large banana.
    1 scoop of ice cream.
Handful of chopped up dried apricot.
+ milk for volume as required.
(+1 crushed tim tam for Easter :D).

    For myself:
    1/2 to 1 large banana.
    Scoop of ice cream.
Handful of chopped up dried apricot.
    teaspoon of malt
30grams of whey protein. Pregnant women should not use whey protein.
    1 teaspoon of colostrum.

Our genes maybe in the basement but it does not stop us chosing our point of view from the top.

I failed to weigh myself this morning. I had restaurant food on Friday and a full sub sandwich and snacks on Saturday. I will return to my normal exercise schedule this week and will continue to update every three days.

I weighed 175 on Thursday. Still a minus from when I started, but a minor gain from before. I had two tests on Wednesday and wound up eating out of stress and losing exercise time to study. With those tests out of the way, things will start to improve again.

    Angry Re: Weight Loss thread.

For the season of Lent I gave up eating between meals, that means any and all snacking whatsoever. Which means that I could only eat at meals and nothing else. I started the 40 day season at 178 lbs. At Easter (the end of the season) I weighed 162 lbs. The system has worked so well that I've decided to continue it from now on with some exceptions (for like when I'm out with friends and I'm eating socially or something). This, in addition to lifting weights (I can bench press more than my weight now :-) ) and doing cardio 3-5 times a week has been extremely beneficial. I feel so much better and I have so much more energy.

    No snacks, you'll lose weight!

I was the same weight as before on Friday, possibly a half-pound heavier. Late-night studies screwed things up. Excuses, excuses. I'll have to find a way to lose the weight, as I'm going to keep posting and bumping this thread until I weigh 157.5 pounds.

I've thought it over a bit and I've figured that this hearts-and-minds, minimum sacrifice, "don't hurt yourself" approach to fitness that pops up in the news every week will never work. The body needs to be conquered. Unconditional surrender is the main objective. If my body can withstand all the food I shove into it every weekend, it can withstand daily strenuous exercise.

    I'm 6 ft and around 12 - 12.5 stone

Not sure If I'm overweight or not - just need to tone up really- got myself a little beer belly and few bits of unwanted flab

I do weights- just reps with dumbells really. Is it true if you do lots of curtls then it can firm up your stomach muscles ?
Look what these bastards have done to Wales. They've taken our coal, our water, our steel. They buy our homes and live in them for a fortnight every year. What have they given us? Absolutely nothing. We've been exploited, raped, controlled and punished by the English — and that's who you are playing this afternoon Phil Bennett's pre 1977 Rugby match speech

I think it's more the case of the body being able to handle more than the mind thinks, if you think you're getting exhausted you should up the pace (I cycle), it's surprising what you can do if you just don't stop

I was about 173 today. Not bad for overeating on Friday and Saturday. These weekends are ruining my progress. I will have to stop eating restaurant food.

I just read today, that people with BMI between 25 and 30 actually live longer than average! Maybe a bit of fat on the bones is actually good for you as long as it not too much. Above 30 and the life-expectancy dropped fast though.

That good news for me though - BMI at 25,6 today
