That's true, I did it with professional help (akin to weight-watchers but not the same) so that helped.

I really really dislike that signature by the way, it's creepy
Nope - no sig what so ever.

Best of luck to you. Make sure you start tomorrow, as I've fallen into mental ruts before in this situation. I get this attitude of "Today is my last day as a free man" and binge heavily. I then repeat this the next day. Hopefully the publicness of this thread will add extra motivation for me.

Being hungry is really bad IMO. Whenever you get to the stage that you are hungry your metabolism has already slowed down considerably. You have to eat every 2 hours to keep the metabolism at top form.
Exercising burns a lot but walking also burns. If you just walk for 2 hours a day that's not bad. It keeps your muscle mass acceptable.
I'm strating dieting today too alsthough I'm wating till I'm 20 when I complitely change everything I eat and become an unberhumanbeing.

I think you can fool your metabolism about not slowing down by drinking a lot of water. Not certain about that though. I'm in. I'm 5'10" and 220 lbs. I want to get down to 175lbs (if that's humanly possible).

I've tried just diet (does well) and I tried just exercise (doesn't seem to do as much). I think the trick is a combination of both. I lost like 30 lbs with the Atkins diet, even without a lot of exercise, but I just cant' buy that eating greasy sausage is okay but that you need to watch how much brocoli you're taking in. I think this time I'm going to try South Beach. It's carb-restrictive as well (no sugar, very litttle grains) but it also forces you to take your protein from very lean sources (like fish, tofu & legumes) and also allows more vegtables. Even fruit is restricted though. I'll let you know how I do. If get really cranky in the next couple of weeks, that's because you cannot drink at all for 3 weeks, then it's small doses of red wine (1 glass/day) after that.

I'm starting today too, 1m69 and 90.3 kilo's, you can convert it yourselves :-)

My goal is about 70 kilos, it's going to be long....

Don Corleone , my parents tried South beach, it works, but you have to be willing to spend a lot of time preparing your meals, I also think it's the diet that has you eating several eggs a day, not good for your cholesterol.

Byzantine Prince, don't people eat pretty healthy in Greece ? lots of vegetables, cooking in olive oil, etc. ? I don't think being hungry is really a bad sign, your body has to adjust, this usually takes a week and is not too healthy for your body, but unless you plan to start a progressive stricter diet (almost impossible to follow i think) you have to go through this.

I'm 5'10" too- but if I got down to 175lbs I'm pretty sure I'd be dead. I guess you build/frame counts for alot. I weigh 270 now, but in college I was down around 235-240, was 2-3 pants sizes smaller and was in darned good shape. Here's hoping I get back there!

How often are we supposed to be checking in? Every 2 weeks or what? We should probably have a designated "reporting" day that everyone should try to post on or around to help keep things organized/motivated.

er scratch my first weight, 220 it is. i estimated and was a few lbs off. That means I need to lose about 20-40 lbs by June 23rd. Damn. Time to work out (wouldnt mind replacing it with muscle instead ) and time for some running.
