It's great, but a bit shallow. Still, good for healthy, well-built and polished fun.
what's it about? i haven't heard/seen anything about this game but i'm surprisingly interested.. any info post here or pm me please
This is the latest review from IGN ( november last year )

thanks for the link, doesn't look like my kind of game but if RTW had naval battles like this that would be really cool.

I enjoy the game![]()
This is a surprisingly fun game. I agree with BDC, in that the game play is a bit shallow. But it's very engrossing for the 10 hours or so it takes to beat it.
just heard about the new version looks good but havent
played it yet. I liked the first one pirates but cant
realy play it with XP![]()
I've got it. Great game, very addictive. Nothing as satisfiying as building up to a Frigate and then blasting some pirate hunter out of the water in a single salvo. The swordfights are good fun, and this must be the only computer game I've played where ballroom dancing is an essential part of the game.
it's a nice update to the original, but i tend to agree with the 'shallow' remarks. it gets old fairly quickly and the ballroom dancing, whereas in theory a nice new addition, is impossible on my current machine. i think my lagging vid card just cant send me the info quicly enough to make the right moves. so, i suppose that's my computer's fault and not the game itself.
i always liked the sea battles in the original. but, in this re-make they just seem too easy. no matter what i'm 'driving' at the time, i see to be able to beat anything i go up against. a sloop beating a man-o-war or a frigate? just seems a bit silly. and when it's the other way around, MY man-o-war or frigate always beats the opposing sloop. so, it's a bit disappointing in that regard.
i do love the smoother, faster loading and playing. on the old c-64 you'd tend to have to wait half the day for various things to load and run, but it was fun.
the sword fighting is also lacking in depth. i found a routine that makes every sort fight a victory. i basically use only one attack, never defend and always win....*yawn*.
the graphics are great and the game is fun.... for a while. the original game i played for months. this one lasted maybe a week before i put it aside. still, i'd buy it again, though.
