always liked the trolls, myself (the "real" ones, not the forum-kind :P)
i'd be big as a house, thick-skinned, and couldn't care less about what the rest of the world wants from me - they wouldn't even scratch me.

ofc, lancelot makes an excellent point.

I almost picked Boromir. The desire to do the right thing while still being in possesion of flaws that sometimes allow you to act well or badly depending on the situation remind me of myself to an extent. I want to be a good person and I want to be seen as a good person but I sometimes cannot prevent myself from acting contrary to this. I try but the effort occasionaly comes with failure.

I hope I can objectively be seen as a good person but I'm not sure if such is the case.

I picked Faramir, seemed like a more regular guy than Aragorn yet still had a lot of responsibility.

BTW I'm referring to the Tolkien book, not the Jackson film (which was visually stunning and better than anything I could have done but that I still think was shallow)

    Aragorn as Strider.

I would say Faramir.. I'm often overshadowed by the successes of my older brother. He always gets good exam results - it's not that i'm not clever, it's the effort - and he has loads of trophies for sport.

Gimli wasn't really crazy, he was more an argumentative, stubborn, little git. In battle, he could be described as crazy but I think this is more just the way dwarfs fought - aggressive. But later in the story, you see Gimli has a sense of humour and becomes good friends with his sworn enemy, Legolas.

Beating up people bigger than you - Sure you have , can you prove it?

Tom Bombadil came to mind first.

If limited to the film, then Sam’s dad the Gaffer.

I want to change from Boromir - too many people are choosing him. Saruman perhaps - maintains a facade of being great and good, whilst having already fallen. Plus, he's a dab hand with science.
Don't have any aspirations - they're doomed to fail.

    Rumours...

I've chosen Faramir; mostly because he is one of the few realistic characters of LOTR. Most people and non-people in the book aren't that well thought out, and certainly the majority doesn't seem very humane (though that might have been the intention). If I would have to choose my ideal, how I would like to see myself, I'd take Gandalf. He's rational, powerful, intelligent, but also cynical, grumpy and a little arrogant.
