Wink An evil invention from evil people

LONDON (Reuters) - Can't get out of bed in the morning?
Scientists at MIT's Media Lab in the United States have invented an alarm clock called Clocky to make even the doziest sleepers, who repeatedly hit the snooze button, leap out of bed.

After the snooze button is pressed, the clock, which is equipped with a set of wheels, rolls off the table to another part of the room.

"When the alarm sounds again, simply finding Clocky ought to be strenuous enough to prevent even the doziest owner from going back to sleep," New Scientist magazine said Tuesday.

Wonderful! The most powerful engineering minds in the United States develop a clock which hides from you! Am I the only one who understands the scope of the mischief Clocky is capable of pulling off on people in their weak, groggy wake-up states? Imagine Clocky knocking over fragile things onto a hard floor that you have to walk over in a darkened room in a sleepy state... That oughta wake you up!

    I think I'll buy one.

Lets start a 'KILL CLOCKY' thread...I agree, an abomination towards humanity and should be subject to the full wrath of the free
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

I don't need one. Keeping my alarm clock on a table far from the bed is quite enough, thank you.

Stupid medieval monks and their need to get up at all hours of the night to say their prayers caused all this clock nonsense. Now a damn clock rules most of our lives. WE DON'T NEED NO STINK'IN CLOCKS!

If uit got me up a bit earlier I would buy it. I don't keep anything fragile or valuable in my room anyway. Most people probably won't like it though, most people also like sleep.... I don't.

This is the perfect gift for someone you don't like. Other than that, I don't see too many people buying them. There is such a thing as being too good at what you do...

This here is the MIT website which shows the prototype Clocky. It appears to be a student project.

Why not just put a standard clock at the other side of the room... cheaper and you have to get up to turn it off...

I do this. Still go back to bed. But I have self control so I only hit the snooze once.

There is a simple solution to this. You tie one end of a string to Clocky, and then tie the other end of the string in a snug loop around your scrotum. This ought to maximize Clocky's effectiveness.

That would work, but I do not think many people want to wake up that badly.

Holy crap that thing is ugly!

As someone who can't wake up in the mornings, i think this is a pretty good idea. However, i'd never even consider buying one purely for aesthetic reasons!

Since I'm a good American I sleep with several firearms next to my bed (please let's not go there, I do not live in fear, primarily due to the fact that I am heavily armed).

But I can see the headlines

The inventors of Clocky, the new fail-safe alarm clock guaranteed to wake up even the most hearty sleepers, announced today that their device had successfully awakened an entire neighborhood.

Apparently Clocky worked as designed, it went off, then when the snooze alarm was hit launched itself into a corner where 10 minutes later it repeated its wakeup call. At that point, the half-groggy owner could not locate the clock but was able to locate several firearms, and began firing at the sound of buzzing until Clocky was silenced.

The repeated discharge of firearms woke up most of the neighborhood, who naturally assumed that a prowler or would-be rapist had been thwarted, they went back to sleep, but the police came, sirens wailing, and everybody got up thinking it might be a fire or other cool accident they could go rubberneck.

Clocky Spokeperson Risen Shine said gleefully, "we knew it would wake up everybody in the room, but the whole neighborhood, that's just fantastic!!"

lol next thing theyl do is make a clock wich contains a hyperdemic needle,

then if you hit snoose the button disapears and a syringe is exposed,

next time you hit snoose its 20cc's of adrenalin straight in to ya hand.

THAT will wake you up :)

    I want that alarm clock!

Just kidding, hitting my head on the coffee table works better, it is in my room until my family takes it out, lying on its side. I almost hit my head on one of the legs every morning.
