    Default bribery mod release

i know that many times throughout my RTW experiences that i have wanted to make my enemy's armies go away through bribing them, but i also wanted more. i wanted the enemy units to join my faction and shove them back im my enemy's faces. well with this mod, it is finally possible!!

with help of epistolary richard over at the .ORG i have been able to adjust the RTW files to allow you to actually purchase the enemy armies.

here is a copy of the readme:

    BRIBERY MOD V1.0

the purpose of this Rome: Total War modification is to allow the player to actually purchase the enemy units in a bribe.
you will find that this mod adds a completely new aspect to the game, it will allow you to turn an enemy army upon its once leader.
the peasants have been left alone, so you will NOT be able to gain peasant units if you bribe them.

    known problems
Missing skins or sprites - Many of the changes in descr_model_battle involved telling the game which texture and sprite to look at for each model for each faction.
This has not had to be done for every model (thankfully) but from my experience it's sometimes a little fickle. If textures or sprites fail to appear (the model is white or suddenly disappears at a certain distance) some success has been achieved by defining the texture/sprite for every faction.
Be wary of knock-on effects though as many models are used across different factions.
** this modification will allow you to make all of the R:TW units in a custom battle **

please not that this modification changes critical game files, and all files that it replaces should be backed-up before installation

this rar or zip file contains three things:

    the 'export_descr_unit.txt' file
    the 'descr_model_battle.txt' file
    and unit cards

    to install:

    1. copy export_descr_unit.txt and paste it over the one in your rome directory

    2. copy descr_model_battle.txt and paste it over the one in your rome directory

3a. create a folder in your rome directory entitled 'UI'

3b. create 20 (twenty) folders in your 'UI' folder
3c. rename one of the folders for each of the following factions:
    ARMENIA
    BRITONS
    CARTHAGE
    DACIA
    EGYPT
    GAULS
    GERMAN
    GREEK_CITIES
    MACEDON
    NUMIDIA
    PARTHIA
    PONTUS
    ROMANS_BRUTII
    ROMANS_JULII
    ROMANS_SCIPII
    ROMANS_SENATE
    SCYTHIA
    SELEUCID
    SPAIN
    THRACE
3d. copy and paste all of the files in the unit cards folder into EVERY one of the folders that you created

i would like to graciously thank Epistolary Richard for coming around with the unit cards.
i would also like to thank the CA for creating this great game for all of us to play

    enjoy!

Sweet mod! Does it affect which units you can train too? I mean, will you be able to train warband too? I don't want it to enable training of enemy faction's units, only bribing of them to join my side. Is that the way it works?

Training is dependant on buildings. If I see correctly, the mod doesn't do anything to buildings, so no.
    I'm still not here

This mod is very interesting for campaigns.

However, in export_descr_unit all the units are assigned to all the factions. I suppose that, as a consequence, all the units are available for all the factions in custom battles. Am I right?
If so, this would be also very interesting for the design of historical battles, as the player would be able to drive not only the typical units of the faction, but also the allies. E. g. romans with numidian allies fighting against Carthage.
Perhaps somebody could use this idea.

    Cheers.

No, as eadingas says, the mod doesn't affect recruitment in any way, the only way to get foreign units is to bribe them.

That's correct, but there's a limit on the number of units that will display as available in the custom battle army selection screen (100). All the units are still available (if you get the game to pick an army it can pick from all the units) but only the first 100 will be displayed.

If you want to play a normal custom battle you can just substitute in the vanilla export_descr_unit, but this will, of course, disable the bribery.

    ---------

    Unit_Info cards
I've finally got space for the larger unit_info cards that tie through to the unit cards for this and the ZOR mod. They're available here. They're not necessary for the mod to work, but they're there if you want a more complete gaming experience.

    ----------

Important installation note for users who have already unpacked their .pak files
If you've already unpacked your .pak files you obviously won't need to create the new folders in Data/UI for each faction HOWEVER when you copy the new ones it it will ask you if you want to overwrite some existing files - ALWAYS SAY NO - otherwise some of your vanilla faction units may appear with the wrong unit card.

    Question Re: bribery mod release

I tried the Bribery Mod download link and got the following - Error. Reason: File "briberymod.zip" was not found!

Can I download this mod somewhere else?

You can just make it yourself. In your export_descr_unit file, just make all units you want to be able to bribe owned by every faction.

Not sure if I am necroposting here.... but I have this same problem too. Can someone re-upload the file, or, if it's possible to edit it myself, tell me how it's done?

I was just wondering if a mod like this could happen.......

And one question: if I install this mod, and then play a save game, will it work, or will I have to start a new campaign for it to take effect?
WARNING! This baseline signature should never appear on screen!

Ummm, can this bribing be added to mods that have their unit cap maxed?
