Default Multiplayer investigations into game mechanics roster

I'm not sure where this should be, Colosseum, Ludus Magna or Multiplayer so move it if you think it would be better served anywhere.

Anyway, just an idea of mine to set up some form of list of those who are interested in doing multi-player trials to investigate game mechanics, similar to what Red Harvest is doing with archery, except multiplayer makes far more sense as you can set up your tests exactly how you want them.

    Anyway, I'll volunteer first.

Availability: Between 7am and 2pm GMT on all days bar Wednesday and Saturday, I can probably make time elsewhere as well if needed.
Location: Australia (might provide problems for lag, have to test it)
    Modding experience: Very little.

I ask that this be moved to Ludus Magna for a number of reasons.

Most investigation is being done there, so there the thread will get much better exposion and since threads are slower in dropping down the thread can survive easier (I don't expect tens of posts here but the few that post can become invaluable).

There is an active discussion regarding a balanced multiplayer mod here:

    Sid,

I dont think the point was for a multiplayer mod, rather a core game mechanics investigation using the multiplayer environment to aid setting up the tests.

This is a great idea, hope it works!

Most clans already kind of do that

It's a very good idea, and it works very well.

Be aware of the limits of such test; some units work better when used with others, also the power of some other units is in the fact you don't really have to manage them for them to do good. When testing a 1 on 1, you got all the time you want to micromanage, and you won't find that time in real games.

    Good luck to you,

The point is not to use the units to their best, but to use them as the AI woul had it been able to, such as testing Testudo without having the archers march right up to you or even engaging in melee.

The use of multiplayer to test battlefield mechnics is an excellent idea, IMO.

As to whether this thread should be in the LM, I read this (perhaps incorrectly) as a request for people willing to do the research, rather than a place to post research itself, so it's probably best in the other forums for now. Once there are results, the Ludus Magna will be the place to post them, either within existing threads (e.g. about the effects of command), or in a new thread if the topic is not yet covered.

    Good luck!

Yes, it's a list of people who are willing to participate in research, rather than research itself. If you want to do some research, ask those who have said they will help, and work out something.

    So you are correct therother

On seconds thought, how about a temporary announcement in the LM?

    Edit: Done.

Just as a matter of interest, what's the status of this idea? Any research going on?

Well nobody contacted me, but I'm still happy to do research...
