Maybe, just maybe, some people here need to calm down a little?

It's a little sad to see the p*ssing matches about different mods in this thread and in others.

You guys are really doing a "great" service to people like VH and BKB who put a lot of effort (and for free - IMO that cannot be mentioned too often) into the mods they contribute to the community.

IMHO it's good to see that the XL mod got this kind of "public" recognition. Of course one might argue that other mods would deserve the same and this would definitely be true.
However, I think we should rather see this award as a recognition of the great work of TW modders in general.

Kudos to all the guys like WesW, BKB, Barocca, VH, Duke John, the EB-team and countless others I did not mention who go the extra mile (actually a lot of extra miles) to make TW an even better experience for the community

Just for the record: Armchair Athlete, reading through the links you posted, I indeed think that you are going too far in suggesting that DD used multiple accounts to flame.

I think this topic is getting WAY out of hand and completely deviating from VH's success. A lot of profanities and allegations are being thrown around, which aren't doing anyone any good.

Von Cockmyre has only posted once and it looks like he's not going to again. I realise that by flaming VH's mod it is easy to pair him with Duke Dick, but he never specified any mods. Now if he would've said BKB's then I think those allegations would have had a more solid base.

AA you make some interesting points, but they have little foundation I feel. Understand I don't have control over what DD posts. I've conversed with him over PM many times but I wouldn't say that I know him well enough to try to restrain him. However, I'd also like to think I know him well enough to say that he isn't the type of guy to create multiple accounts to flame people. He's already shown he could do that as DD if he wanted to, so I'm not sure why he'd do that anyway. Masaki86's job description was as a "mod-insulter", which cried out for trouble. That guy had a pop at everyone - Me, VH and WesW, so he certainly didn't appear to show any bias! As you can see, Masaki86, Von Cockmyre and Duke Dick have three very distinct personalities, so it is at this stage unfair to say that they are one person.

I think the main link between Masaki and DD is their foul language. Masaki has posted nothing but negative comments, but DD only seems to use foul language when people get to him, which with his temperament tends to be quite easily. But DD has contributed more to the community - he has over 200 posts and not all of them are related to flaming VH's mod. He's posted in other parts of the forum also, which suggests there is more to his character surely. Plus he has stated in this thread that his thoughts on the XL mod have u-turned and that he is now enjoying it. True he preceded that with a questionable comment, but lets just take things one step at a time.

I perfectly understand VH's frustrations - while these three may have been more blatant at times with their insults, I've had to put up with many less vulgar negative comments in my thread since the mod's conception, and the lack of gratitude for the hard work does tend to annoy after a while, which some of you may have regretably witnessed in my recent knee-jerk reactions in other threads, which I apologize for. In an odd way it can be worse, because they are more serious comments by proper members rather than just the odd flaming newbie, who probably doesn't even mean what he says. Subsequently, I can emphatize with VH's and his fellow supporters anger on this one, but, although hard, its probably better you ignore the more petty remarks and only respond to ones you feel hit closer to the bone.

I can't honestly see a day when DD and VH will patch up their differences, but surely a ceasefire should be called and this thread closed before it descends into chaos.

Tip of the hat to VH. I have played XL exclusively for months and its an excellent mod, well deserving of the praise. I am however skeptical of any award given by Wargamer.com (note that I am banned from thier forums )


They gave RTW an award and a glowing write up, despite its well documented, and in some players mind game breaking save game bug. They also have made many favorable reviews and awards for Paradox games (any one who knows me knows I have had a love hate relationship with those games) despite some very real AI/crashing issues with HOI, and CK.

Hoi2 is pretty solid though. Anyway it would seem Wargamer gave an award that is consistant with my personal gaming expirence. Part of me finds that shocking, another part oddly gratifying.

XL is a great Mod, VH did a great job, he deserves the accolades he gets.

BKB, I know you have conducted yourself with honesty and integrity at all times, and I have been impressed with that. I have posted before defending the crashes which some people claim to get playing your mod, which is actually not a fault of your mod but graphics cards patches, so you should be aware that this is not just something to get to you. I also know Duke Dick does not speak for you. I still believe what I have posted, that indeed he would flame others using multiple accounts. I still believe that his comments are counter productive to the advertisement of your mod, which I would like to see succeed as well. It has been going on for almost a year now, and all I want is to be able to come here and not read threads full of abuse. I have been patient with it and put up with it until now.

I understand that not everyone will see things the way I do, however the undeniable facts are as follows;

Newbs have been registering for the sole purpose of flaming XL Mod, often with foul language.

Duke Dick has a vendetta against VH, which while not consuming all his posts, consumes a significant portion of them. Many a time a thread on this subject has degenerated because of DD's intervention.

DD jumps in and nearly always comments on the abusive posts that newbs post.

masaki86 had only 5 posts, three of which are in the thread which MTW mod is your favourite, and 2 in the other thread (one of which was deleted for foul language). If we wanted to troll so badly, it is suprising that he waited until now to do so.

All I want is for the abuse to stop. I know I have been somewhat hypocritical in this, as my comments are causing the thread to degenerate, but this had to get sorted out sooner or later. Time is not going to fix this issue, so better to do so now.

I tell you what. If it is possible, I will ask Tosa Inu to do an IP trace. If both Masaki's and Baron von Cockmyres IPs are from a different country to DD, then undeniably I am in the wrong. I will publicly apologise to Duke Dick for my comments regarding his use of multi accounts (although not for the negative publicity with BKB's mod). If they are from the same country, then the issue will be somewhat unresolved, as one can easily just post from a different computer to the one he mainly uses. If any of the IP's are the same as the ones Duke Dick has posted from ,then my comments will be correct.
