Default Hosting a Wolfenstein - ET server

i thought it might be nice if folks that are interested wanted to play on a server for other Org members. i put up a dedicated server (actually, it's temporary, but they call it dedicated) for the game recently and tried it out with tosa. we had some fun and i thought others might like to join in. now, this isnt a 'serious' server. i dont have a T1 or anything and i'm only hosting up to 12 folks at a time and i also take it down every day. if there's any interest, though, i might put it up daily at a given hour, normally it would be around 1-2 p.m c.s.t. and left up for the rest of the afternoon or maybe even into the evening.

also, if we want to really just make it an Org server, i could password it and post the pw's here. currently it's not.

i've also been learning and playing with server commands. lol. this can get pretty funny. i've got the current server running at about 1/8 gravity, which is hilarious on most maps.

i've also only got a few maps on this server, but i've got a ton of maps on my other machine i can transfer over if there's an interest.

so, i'll leave this up today and maybe over the weekend and see if anyone's interested. but do check at the specified times, as the server may not be up at other times.

also, if you've got any recommendations or suggestions or advice, please post it here. and, if you want to try a specific map, let me know here also... and post the link to where i can get that map.

I'd be interested in playing on the server. Afterall, I did sell my soul to RTCW for 2 years, after MI ended up not being quite as I had hoped. Could you keep me posted or pm me the details for your server, Krae. Thanks in advance.

    hi guys,

you might know... as soon as i put this notice up, i went and tried to upgrade things a bit more with some more maps and things and whap, i crashed. wasnt a nice crash either. i had to reload my vid card drivers as something made dxdiag not work any more and the opengl drivers werent working. had to reinstall my drivers, delete wolf et, re-install it, patch it, and then upgrade punkbuster.

the good news is, all is working now and the server is up!

oh, and the name of the server currently is 'Kraellin's'. that's all. you can find it through gamespy or by loading et and 'play online'. if you use gamespy, i'd recommend marking it as a favorite as this will keep it at the top of the gamespy listings.

ah, and i'm currently running version 1.02. there is a new patch out, but i havent upgraded to it yet. if most folks want to go to this newer patch, i'd be willing to upgrade, but for now, it's 1.02. i may post some links to some of these things later, but for now, tosa is joining my server and we're going to play on light gravity ;)

I downloaded et and tried to connect to your server, but it told me that "Either I or the server was running and older version of the game", so i installed the 2.60 patch...still no luck. Would it be a pain to upgrade to 2.6 ?

I thought I would initially be running 1.2, but I guess the et installer is even older then that. So, when I couldnt connect to the server, I figured I should upgrade it to 2.6, but that didnt work either...I dont really wanna install a previous patch on top of the latest, I dont know how the game will react to that. BTW 1.2 is the patch from 2003, how come you guys arent using 2.6 ?

    hi krypta,

yes, i'm using 1.02. do NOT install the new patch. no one seems to be using it and one report says it's buggy....but that is not substantiated. might just be some cranky guy or something.

to play, you'll have to uninstall the patch (not sure that's possible) or uninstall the entire game and reinstall, then patch to 1.02.

the reason i'm running 1.02 is because the servers i play on still use 1.02, so i'd have to lose all my favorite servers.

the game is running just a standard map cycle for now, except i did put 'baserace_beta2' on it and tosa and i played that. it's a very innovative map. you might wanna just go in solo and try it out to get the hang of it. and baserace is currently (as i type this) the only map in the rotation. i still need to learn how to set up campaign rotations, et or shrub mods and so on. so, things are in simple mode for now. your xp will NOT save between maps or campaign cycles.

i turned up the download speed for direct downloading from the game server, but that is still pretty slow. i'll post some links where you can get various maps in a bit.

ok, you can get baserace_beta2.pk3 here: http://www.darkrangers.com/etmain/

just download it and put it in your wolfenstein - enemy territory/etmain folder. no unzipping or anything else needed.

lots of other maps on that site also.

I love ET and play regularly, but I doubt my playing would coincide with the server, and I simply can't cope with the ping of servers not in aus.

well, we had a game or two yesterday and then a few more today :)

participating were tosa, myself, krypta and discovery1.

generally speaking, if we're going to play, it's going to be in the afternoon on weekdays (central standard time) or weekends. i dont put the server up till about 1 or 2 p.m on weekdays and whenever i get up on the weekends (this may vary greatly :)

the current map running is 'mml_minastirith_fp' . make sure it's fp and not fp2. both are on this site: http://wolfmap.de.gaming-networks.ne...ase&ref_id=397 that's a german site, i believe, but the maps are listed in english. i believe baserace can also be found there. make sure it's the version listed in the above posts.

you can also vote to change maps....i think. so, you could run minas or baserace, or the standard campaign. those are all i have up at the moment.

i'm still learning how to make map rotation files, so there's no rotation on anything but the standard campaign. minas and baserace are in single objective mode.

we had some good fun, what with me altering the gravity and game speed settings and both minas and baserace are fun maps.

generally speaking, north america and europe can play during the afternoons in north america (early evening in europe). others may have a harder time.

also, i had a little trouble finding my server in the gamespy list. the only way it would show up was to refresh the server list. so, if you encounter the same problem, that's the solution.

would it be possible to post the server IP so as one does not need to use gamespy or browse thru tons and tons of other server names

Tried to play last night and did notice a few things.

Those files I downloaded from the links here didn't end up as pk3 files, but as zip files. And unpacking them got you no-where.

The automatic download from your server is painfully slow (9-13k/s).

And the computer decides to download many, many maps
I needed to change a setting to actually come in to your server instead of downloading more maps.

But I came in after 4 and a half hours, but none was in so it a bit boring and quite late too.
Only a nice 7 hour difference here, it's good that you've changed to summer-time (you change later than us).

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?
