    Default Procrastination

Hi, let's talk about procrastination. I have real problem with it and it makes my life very hard. I always thought it might have been lazyness but I recently discovered it's purely that I put off things for later. I did bad in school(relatively) and I would not do things that require little to no effort for not apparant reason. It's not that I did nothing. In fact I do things and think about things almost constantly but I have a problem doing important things. Does anyone else here have the same problem.

Oh man, the guy who wrote the article is so right. I can┤t express with words the joy of not calling myself lazy, but procrastinator, which, you have to admit sounds much more important. Which is, of course self deception. But hey, who are we do stop us from fooling ourselves?

Anyway, I┤ve just realized I┤m learning to use 3dsMAX and editing RTWs models to avoid writing an essay on genetic research enthics due for March 11th. Yeah, 3 weeks ago. But I have so many excuses planned...

HAHA, Im posting here instead of doing dome Cadd work I had to finish weeks ago. My boss will kill me. I don't understand the root of the problem though. What causes this? What is it that destroys people's minds like this? I'm getting frustrated.

I can always do my homework...

    ...Tonight.

    ...Later tonight.

    ...Tommorow morning.

    ...On the bus.

    ...Before the first bell.

    ...In first block.

    ...At lunch.

    ...At the beginning of class.

    ...By the end of class.

...This afternoon, and email it then.

...After dinner, and email it then.

...Later tonight, and email it then.

...Tommorow morning, and hand it in late.

    (Repeat as necessary).

It's the futility of the whole process. Even if you would finish all the important things you have to do today, there will only be new "important things" to do tomorrow. It never ends, so you might as well stick with the ones you have for now. At least that's how it is with me.

Thats probably why we're here, because we're procrastinating. What I find odd is that I rarely hand in assignments and I still manage to always get an A average.

Oh so true. Hmm, I have calc homework to do. Ah, I have study hall first thing, I'll do it then. And then there are those chem lab rewrites. Aren't due for a while though. And it would be a REALLY good idea to study for the Science Olympiad Nations in May. I could just print more images for astronomy. I'll do that, maybe. The pics are nice and and I need a new backround. Brilliant article.

Personally, I never put off until tomorrow something I can avoid altogether. And as I tell my boss, I waste time so you don't have to.

He says: "This is the essence of what I call structured procrastination, an amazing strategy I have discovered that converts procrastinators into effective human beings, respected and admired for all that they can accomplish and the good use they make of time. "

Unfortunately, upon reading his essay, following that strategy seems vitally important to me.
Maybe I'll get around to installing those blinds while I delay applying structure to my procrastination? Or maybe I'll play some Total War. That is quite useless, unfortunately.

I'm gonna start smoking instead of posting here. If only my little brother wasn't here to see me. Oh well I quess I'll do some work instead of coming here posting. The more I delay it the lesss posts I'll have, and that's a good thing. Don't wanna look like I post here all day like JAG. I wish there was a girl here I could f$$$ instead of posting but unfortunatly they only come out seasonably.

Hmm... that's kind of a part of the problem. It's like I try to avoid doing things that strain me somehow. Like even something as simple as doing a meeting with someone I don't particularly care for. Or going somewhere where it's going to be awkward. Or just doing my homework, it seems like there's nothing in the world that can get me down to doing it. It's that fear of strain. Maybe I'm just spoiled, my parent's always let do whatever I wanted and now I'm paying for it.

I spend more time thinking of ways to either avoid doing something or thinking of 'better' ways of doing something (read avoid) than to actually do it. It's definitely far from lazyness but some might call it a form of procrastination; I call it a gift of convenience...

I find that while I put things off, it's mostly just a mental block sort of thing-for example, I'll read a book, then play guitar, then listen to music for two hours to avoid doing my homework, but once I'm acyually doing it, it doesn't bother me and I normally quite enjoy it. It's just getting started that I put off.

    OK, I can dig that.

Do you find that by trying to delay or avoid the strain that the overall stress decreases or increases?

For me when I avoid something that I need to do I usually wind up more stressed out, and then find that the stress goes away once I face whatever it is I'm hiding from.

Is procrastinating helping you or is making things worse?

Do you want to accept it or change it?

I definetly want to change it. It's a horrible desease that I've had to battle all my life. My parents always spoiled me and I blame them. I can't blame myself for being spoiled now can I?
