lol no. I usually blame my parents, or society, or my wife, or my cat, for my problems.

At some point in my life I realized that things pile up, and if I didn't deal with them then I would quickly get overwhelmed.

This feeling of being overwhelmed stressed me out so much that the 'fear of strain' was totally overshadowed by the sense of being out of control of my life.

At that point I started dealing with things, which I found out made me feel good, and now I either jump on $h!t right away or make a conscious decision to let it go, and to tell people that I'm not going to deal with it. It's remarkably liberating.

    Good luck with this BP

I often put things off until the last minute. A year or two ago I began to wonder if I actually liked the stress and fear of last-minute work. It is a dangerous gamble that is exhilarating when it pays off, and when it doesn't, it adds more feelings of risk and stress, raising the stakes.

One of the most egregious cases of procrastination was the weekend before a test on Monday. Already sleep-deprived, I stayed up late on Saturday night, watching TV, playing video games, and staring at websites until my eyes stung. Sleep meant waking up and having to cram the next day. I stayed up late, finally turning in at 3-4 A.M. Forgetting to set my alarms to a reasonable wake-up time, I woke up at 4:00 P.M. When that happened, I immediately knew that I would have to pull an all-nighter in order to salvage my sleep cycle and get my studying done. After pulling off a caffeine-free all-nighter, I went to class late Monday afternoon and aced the test. I felt utterly invincible.

Episodes like this one tend to create favorable "war stories" in my mind, things that I can take strength from whenever I am in similar situations. They have also created a dangerous Favre-like self-image that is comfortable in putting things off until the last minute. Fear seems to be my motivator, and unfortunately, instructors these days do not use it enough.

Sometimes it is eve the most trivial things you leave for "later", absolutely stupid things that take you 10 min max but that seem utterly impossible to engage in. Take ironing, how long does it take to iron 3 shirts? 8 min. How long does it take to actually start ironing? days.

But when someone says to me, do something by some date. I already know where it stands in my list of priorities, and I can tell it isnt getting done til a month or so afterwards. Which is, as ichi said, liberating.

    Procrastination is my life.

Hm, i have some homework. I'll do it in an hour, once i've gone on the computer for a while. An hour has passed. I don't want to do it now, there's a program on TV, i'll do it later in bed. The program's finished and i'm in bed. But i'm so tired. I'll do it in the morning. It's the morning. I could do it, but i have to get ready for school. I'll do it on the bus. I'm on the bus, but i would rather talk to my friends. I'll do it at lunchtime, at school. It's lunchtime, but i'm so hungry. I'll go eat lunch. Oh, look, my friends are calling. Lunch is over, and i have to give in the homework. I haven't got it. I'll have it tomorrow Miss/Mrs/Mr *insert name*.

    Rinse and repeat.

It's just getting started that I put off.

    Exactly the same with me...

    That's me!

Apart from I tend to rely on some of my teacher's usual habits: I think "She usually takes 5 minutes to take the register at the start of lesson and doesn't usually check the homework until the end of the lesson. But more often than not, I just don't do homework and rely on excuses. A thread on excuses can also be found in the Frontroom.

e.g. I get some homework to be done by 10 days time. If I were to even think about doing the homework, I would not be thinking about it until 9 days time.

e.g. I have some homework to be completed by the end of the Easter Holidays.. (next monday, I go back to school) It is to revise for some tests which are pretty important but I know already that I won't begin revising until the day/morning before the exams, so why bother even trying to have the will power to get it out of the way?

Considering that I'm similar to almost everyone who's posted in this forum, I think everyone is a procrastinator. Just some people more than others.

    Happy Procrastination!

WOW . If Im not mistaken most people here are hardline procrastinators. Amazing. What can we do to fight this awful desease. I can't even take a shower unless I absolutely have to anymore. It's getting really out of hand.

I think it gets worse as you get older... I'm dreading my forthcoming laziness.

Hey, that's me! With groupwork I end up doing most of other people's work, and last time, there wasn't enough time to make my part of the work satisfactory. but groupwork is still a laugh while you're doing it.

I should go to school tomorrow, because I should talk with one my teachers about one project work. But as I'm procrastinator, I possibly stay at home whole day. Perhaps I take pint or two

BTW, I should have talked with my teacher about that project work over six weeks ago.

Heres a link on procastination and how to stop it.

    http://mentalhelp.net/psyhelp/chap4/chap4r.htm

I am a excessive procastinator myself and it has greatly deteriorated my grades. I beleive the best way to combat procastination is to use a timetable.
