    Default A Couple of Questions

    Salve, everybody.
Although I have been using Mods and creating my own for several months now, I have yet to play multiplayer in any form. I know that multiplayer can be done with mods, but do the two (or more) people playing have to have
    exactly the same mods?
I would understand that it wouldn't work if each used their own unit graphics, but I wonder whether modifications to the projectile file and to the names would make it so you could not fight. I would think that modded names, would just make it so that the other person would see the other players units name but with an error message?.
Also, this may seem silly, but I have begun to notice that sometimes, units look blurry, and other times clear. For example, in Napoleonic Total War, the artillery sometimes looks clear, but other times has a blur that makes it not look very good. The same seems to happen for all units, modded and from the original game. Does anybody know what causes this?
    Laus Deo,

sounds like your 3d card is blurring the edges of bitmaps to smoothen performance

As long as all multiplayer participants are running the same MTW version (1.0, 1.1, 2.01) and have installed exactly the same version of your mod, then it should work. Any new changes to your copy of it mean you have to re-distribute the files to all your buddies as well.

Other users online will be able to see your game (I can see the NTW, ACW games being hosted, for instance) but, if they select the game, the 'join' button will be greyed out. This shows that the game detects any version, or unit stats, incompatabilities immediately. Presumably, some kind of handshaking/game-version-check takes place at the time you enter the MP lobby and affects the rest of your session.

Similarly, with your mod version running, if you're having to wait for other modded players to show up, you won't be able to pass the time joining other games because you'll be locked out of theirs.

The same thing applies with custom battle maps - every player who wishes to join must have the same map installed into their game.
