Thread: Generals changing names?
Es Arkajae 14:42 04-10-2005
Either this is nothing and I just haven't remembered a feature or something strange is going on.

My generals are changing names ...and portraits, for instance as the Italians one starts off with that guy on Corsica who is a five star general, I usually marry off a princess to him to increase his loyalty before later sending him off on crusade.

Anyway I went to do the latter and I noticed that whilst the unit icon was in the same place with the same stats, same traits, same command stars the general was different, at least he had a different name and portrait but was otherwise the same.

Oh he also wasn't married anymore, so I married off another princess to him.

I've noticed the same things in some Royal knights units as well that used to be royal family members but now have different names and portraits.

Whats the deal here?

Second question regarding the Royal Knights, if they've changed names does that mean they have no claim on the throne now?

Oh and as an end-note let me say how glad I am to be back into MTW, I just had a kickarse 20 minute battle that required real tactics and was damned hard fought. Totally satisfying and great stuff.

Generals age and die, and then are replaced with another general with very similar/same stats. This is probably what happened to you.

Once the new king has an heir, I believe his uncles stop being heirs (the silver crown will be missing from their portrait). They are still RKs, but not in line for the throne and will die off as above.

Oh okay. Thanks mate.

Caught me a bit off guard it did, I'd only had VI for a week or so when I bought RTW and I've now come back to MTW and am still finding out some of the new stuff.

I certainly approve of the feature.:)

Yes, VI introduced the concept of generals dying, and there is a chance that their replacement might have lower skills. You can disable it in the shortcut I think.

The crown will remain, until he dies of old age, it won't disappear immediately after he drops out of succession. Generals dying of old age only occurs in VI. It's purely cosmetic apart from that fact that you can marry a princess to the new general for another loyalty boost if needed.
