Thread: No Blood in RTW

Why is the blood missing from RTW while MTW had plenty? Is it because it would be hard to animate or what?

I think they should add it in the expansion.

This has been raised many times...

the fact is that with the move to 3D units adding in blood you'd see many things. Blood spraying from wounds or pools of blood forming on the ground. MTW could get away with a little blood because the units were 2D sprites; yet if CA did the same with RTW they would more than likely have to bump their "T" rating to an "M" rating. Simply because the Units now look a lot more human than ever before... and a higher rating means, yep, less sales.

besides if you really need blood there's a blood mod over at twc. Sorry but i don't have a link. i think it's in their download section or their Workshop forum.

Could someone find it. I know how hard it is to find, but god knows I'm not the man to do it.

It appears that i did find a number of threads mentioning it; but from what i can tell the 1.2 patch when installed disabled the blood effects, so the blood mod only works on versions 1.0 and 1.1 . I couldn't find an actually link to the mod itself, my guess is the project was left to die.

I did find out that the Trivium organization (sorry if i misspelled that guys ) was working on a blood mod but gave up due to tech. problems. it's likely CA may have done the same when they were originally making the game.

Sorry BP, i should not have spoke with only outdated info in my mind

From what i heard the blood mod slowed things down considerably. I don't really mind the lack of it, it fits the more 'cartoony' look of RTW

Forget the bloodmod....it was never meant to be.

It was tried and mostly failed...it replaced 'dust' with blood and only really work with arrow strikes, not melee combat.

There is only pain and anguish there...

Try and holdout for Rise & Fall: Civilisations at War (Stainless Steel Studios) if'n you want blood and ancient warfare...including naval battles

A little bit of blood would be nice. Kind of like little blood puffs and having a little pool of blood around the dead bodies.

No sense in allowing the kids think that war isn't a gruesome and terrible thing.

as a wise man says: dulce bellum inexpertis ;)

That is too bad... With gore, most people would see the true atrocities of war, just like they could in MTW... Maybe in the next TW game...

What they needed to do at CA was to make a cheat gorefest like there is in GTA2, to enable blood and gore effects.

No, we didn't need to do that at all.

I wonder is that why those really cool cut scenes in STW were cut.
For a lower classification rating.

Yep, and then after it is discovered droves of soccer moms and old senators will beseige CA and demand the head of the one in charge. CA would then get dismantled. Kind of like the march on Versaille.

But, free publicity isn't too bad...

Personally, i think if implemented well, blood could make the game more realistic, but for now, most people just don't have PC's capable of having a thousand little men get red stuff sprayed all over them.

EDIT: I thought i recognised this thread, Ricgard necroed it! Bring out the banstick i say!

I want POOLS OF BLOOD!! I want to bathe in the blood. Hahaha im just joking, in no way am I a serial killer.

If they added blood they would have to make it so people would slip in the pools of blood, or maybe have to swim.

Of course you'd also have to have the blood dripping down the cracks in the walls during sieges. And also incorporate a demoralizing effect in. This would make the game a truly gruesome spectacle that Ancient warfare no doubt was. It would also be an idea to have the paniced civilains during seiges as the catapults fire flaming pots into thier homes. And also wounded soldiers lying among bodies shouting for help and horses without riders wandering aimlessly. This would make an armageddon like feel, which of course war has. It might shed some light on those that are considered warmongers without actually knowing what it's like

one thing that would be nice is for a cavalry unit to have two hit point sets...

one for the horse and one for the rider
if the Rider dies first the horse wanders aimlessly
if the Horse dies first the rider will get up and continue to fight as infantry to the death

if they both die at the same time (i.e. direct hit from an onager) it is the same as they do now

Do we really need blood?

No, we don't. This is a strategy game, not a FPS.

It's either blood or more units on the battlefield.
CA went with the more units option, I am glad to say.

We're not saying we need it. Just saying it would be cool.

Options are the spice of life. I don't understand why people have to argue over it if it was an option. People who didnt like to see blood or whose systems couldn't handle the extra graphic processing required, could choose to switch blood off, just like i chose to switch shadows/detailed shadows off so i get better performance in the game (and I have a 7800GTX OC). I wouldn't mind the extra performance hit by turning on blood, as to me it would add to the immersion factor of this already great game.

You dont need blood for the Tw games,
The dead bodys Piled up infront and throughout your frontline "consisting of 1 Very depleted unit" at the end of a battle with HUGE unit sizes, Gives me a adequate feeling of the Futility of war.
Cours STW was the best game to give you an eery feeling when you stand over your vanquished enemy as his last few units rout.
You can over look the battle feild and imagine some of those sprites still reathing in aggony.
as the mist rolls down the mountain side.
Blood would just be a nother Effect that could cause lag/bugs. and would probably Go unoticed for the most part.
Expeshialy in RTW,
Granted I Did Set RTW to all the best settings for a game,
and i even zoomed in close as eliphants smashed through an opponents unit,
Ive also been following chariots trying to see blades of grass being cut...
But really.
How is that improoving the game play?
Improoving the game play IMHO is not...
Make it look nicer so they will want to go watch the eliphants in stead of plan there second phaze.

More units. Or higer number of men on feild, Would IMHO be the best way to improove the tw games,

That And Make the Ai Notice when Its being Attacked by seige equipment or ranged attack would be nice.

omfg...I didnt say we NEEDED it. I said it would be COOOLLLL.

I didnt say it was the best way to improve gameplay. but it would improve the fun of the game.

And I can say I spend most of my time watching fights rather than planning battles. CA made the AI retarded. So if not improving this, might as well improve the show!

Why aren't there Uranian Death Rays? They would be COOL, and make them an option to turn them off for the dumb puritans who don't like them!

I dont think they had uranian death rays in the roman per...errm EVER. But they did and still have blood. So I think someone should mod that in. You can make your rays if you want to. I'll stick with a more historical and realistic feel.

Actually, it's pretty much:
More blood or more sales
Since Blood=M rating --> Less sales

And yes, I would like having some blood in battle.
It just look ridiculus too see all those dead boding without a single drop of blood anyware.
They are dead people, NOT zombies or vampires for god sake.

Personally, I'm too busy fighting battles to zoom in and look for blood.
If I want to see gore, I can watch a film.

I have never missed blood in RTW. At this grand tactical level of detail, it is unnecessary. In fact, unless it was very subtly done (i.e. almost unnoticeable), it would look silly and cartoonish.
