It has to be the coolest natural disaster. It's like your screen is on LSD.
As Armenia, I lost a lot of troops and a killer family member. Funny he was marching with an army in the field...hard to die from an earthquake in a tent.

hahahahahha, they're cool. but floods are the most anyoing. was securing my rhine/danube borders with fresh troops and a flood occured. i lost 25% of the army of elite legionares only. the defied thousands of carhaginians while losing never more than 5% of the men and now a quarter of the army is washed away by a flood that was atleast 300 miles away (on the map)

I haven't seen a flood or an earthquake?!?! Only a storm and an eruption.. :(
the same happens too me. when i'm training troops for a big invasion, a flood occurs and i can start all over again
We do not sow.
cooool... I never got one :-D I escaped the plague in Thessalonica and the volcanic eruption at Messana (how can an eruption affect an entire province, I ask you?) But I haven't seen a single flood or earthquake :-P Guess it'd make me the cruellest High King/King/Imperator in history if I told you that I'd just shrug and say, 'Oh well, lower upkeep, then,' if a disaster happened :-P

I was so unlucky to get an earthquake munch out a massive merc army I had moving across Asia Minor. Damn! They were supposed to go an support my armies beating up on the Romans. Now I had to use a couple years to bring them back to strength by bringing in other depleted mercs.
Luckily their general survived, had he died I would have killed my computer. I was so mad that I didn't even notice the great visual effect it had.
You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
I always get earthquakes in North Africa. The graphics are really cool. I have never had a flood though :(.
i never had a eartquakes but floods are flying around my ears
We do not sow.
When I played my Scipii campaign I suffered many volcanic eruptions. Mt. Etna in Sicily erupted like almost 10 times during the game, and that volcano near Capua erupted two times. Luckily I didn't have any troops nearby when the erutions happened.
Floods are common in what is modern Holland, so if you are in Germania territory up in the top left corner you should see plenty. The only earthquake I have seen was at Dimmidi and I thought my PC was having a graphics fit/crash.
I have seen earthquakes, storms and volcanoes but never a flood.
Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like bananas.
The army was stationed in a city too small to appear on the campaign map.Originally Posted by HarunTaiwan

Just wondering I'm playing on VH/M now but all this natural disasters(n/d) are VERY RARE. When I began playing RTW on E/M then on M/M I had more n/d then now playing on VH/M. I've played a lot but in all my games I saw only several earthquakes and storms some more eruptions and NO floods![]()
I thought difficulty level will affect but I didn't notice more n/d
I want to see a flood( even when I played Germans I didn't have floods).WHERE I CAN SEE A FLOOD?

As saddletank said they occur on Holland (a lot). Its odd that the only earthquakes seem to occur in north africa (where I've seen one). I believe they are much more common in Turkey and northern Italy.Originally Posted by Nelson

We need MP games without the oversimplifications required for 'good' AI.
In my seleucid campaign, I had just trained a superb army with the first 10 silver shield pikemen I had trained, with 6 cathapracts, some onagers and 1 war elephant unit (one of my first) and several cretan mercs. I was going to launch an offensive through all of north africa and conquer Numidia and Carthage from my bases in Egypt, and also had a backup army with about 15 units of reserves, and 2 family members in the area. THEN A F**KING EARTHQUAKE COMES OUTSIDE CYRENE! ...and kills 33 percent of my superb army and many of the reserves, and BOTH the family members, even though one of them was in Thebes! That made me really angry... Luckily enough my reserves combined with the high-class army was enough to launch a successful and devastating offensive, but it was annoying to not finally be allowed to see the silver shields in action when I had waited so long! Fortunately I had soon enough of them again to replace the old phalanx pikemen I had been forced to put in their place for a while.Originally Posted by Emperor Umeu 1
Of all the natural disasters I like the plague (which you might not consider a natural disaster because in reality it also has a little to do with squalor etc., but what the heck...) the most. It's a really nice way of getting public order up in newly conquered provinces - just put 10 peasant units trained elsewhere in the city, remove the good army you used for the conquest, and then get your plague spy into the settlement. In one of my campaigns I used this method to secure my hold of the 3 Egyptian Nile provinces. When the spy died from being given plague over and over again I simply trained a new one and moved him back and forth between the provinces. Not very realistic that the people in the provinces don't get angry, just imagine the reaction in real life if such a behaviour would be discovered by the people...

I think consequences of disasters get worse with higher campaign map difficulty (my own experience from hard versus very hard campaign difficulty, I haven't played any lower difficulties than hard). In both cases, they're still rare.

I had a message "Earthquake in Pontus" but nothing happened. I don't think I bothered to look over there though. I think I forgot. :( :(
I (think I) got the same message , and the earth was really quaking!Originally Posted by Craterus

Runes for good luck:

To see the full effect click on the magnifying glass in the earthquake message...then you will get your rocks off.
i hardly ever get disasters in my spqr campain.
a few floods but nothing other than that(i need like an asteroid or something big like that)
if you judge an enemy by their size,
you'll never be great.

I must have a different game. Never had earthquakes or floods, though playing for a long time. Volcanoes and storms yes but no floods or earthquakes. Why-O-why??
