The title says it all I think. First I'd better explain something, in the next few days you should see the Baltic Sons name disappearing from the Medieval Clans links, this is because the Baltic sons shall now go by the name Tartar Khanate.

Now that my plans as far as MOD's are concerned are set in stone I can proceed with what the Baltic sons were meant to be in the first place, a working clan/faction. However, this name change has come about simply because of the lack of Lithuanian units within MTW (One in total), and my possession of two Mongol books which I have learnt from.

Right now the site is going under construction once again, however recruiting members will not stop because of this. I have always wanted to be in a working clan, however I have always decided not to do so simply because I wished to run the clan myself.

If you are interested in joining the Tartar Khanate leave a message in the form of a reply to this topic. Skills are not a problems currently as MTW isn't out yet and if there are problems in area's we will simply practise to iron out the chinks in the armour.

Well I read two and I know to start with the Tartar Khanate were enemies with Ghenghis Khan, but after Ghenghis conquered them they fought for him, or so I believe, I'll re-read but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

But I've still got the vigorous task of recruitment to go, as well as *shudders* website design......

It's a great shame I won't even be able to contend with Wolves in the website design aspect as I have no programs to make anything fancy like a flash movie or even a good logo.

However, I did look it up and yes the Tartar fell to Ghengis in his fight for the unification of Mongol clans and they then served him. Here's an interesting quote from the book "The history of the Mongol Conquests" by J.J Saunders.

"The english often referred to the Mongols as Tartars, however whenever in the realm of the great Khan they would be corrected and told that the Tartar's were a people they had already conquered.".

Another Reason they were called Tartars is because while fighting in Russia they were referred to as Sons of Taratrzi(I'm positive thats spelled wrong) by Russians.

    GAH!

They were called Tartars because they invented the sauce of the same name we put on fish.

    Also...

The Tartars were never really known as such. Just like a southerner pronounces "fellow" as "feller", so too did the English mispronounce "Tatas" as "Tartars".

These steppe peoples were famous for the women warriors. In fact, these female warriors were reknown for their voluptuous figures. Greek mythology borrowed their physique to concoct their Amazon warriors. And, it is speculated within academic circles that this is why the Great Khan was so enthusiastic about conquering these peoples. It is also where the current term "ta-tas" comes from, which means "breasts".

Another horribly mispronounced tribe was the "Berbers"...

    GAH!

Hehe lousy backward English . Mongols are also credited with being the first people to season food with garlic(they used it on raw meat.). Oh wait that doesn't have to with their name does it? Anywhooo.....
