    Default Forum names

The MTW forums have individual names for each of their subforums. Should we do the same for the guides and general forum? Yes or No for the time being.

If you think yes, post your suggestions here.

I was thinking (keeping with roman style), we could have Temple of Minerva or something for the Guides forum or maybe the academy or something... and maybe something like the Baths for the general forum?
    What do you think?

General and Guides forum is a bit too general, and perhaps forge, too. Something in Latin, perhaps.
It was not theirs to reason why,
It was not theirs to make reply,
It was theirs but to do or die.

How about "Bibliotheca" or more simply "Library" for the guides.

    Or maybe "The Codex"

"The Forum" for the general forum, problem with the term forum in latin and forum as message board though.

Or the market or something.... I'm just throwing ideas into the air, to see what you think.

I suggested this before for the name for the forge when it was being decided and it nearly won, it is the word officina which means workshop, dux or duxis is the word for a guide so we could have those and then as general is where people just come to talk and share ideas a bit like the roman bath houses so for the general part we could call balineum or balneum.

    Maybe:
    Codex Dux
for the guides forum? Am I right in thinking that is the book of guides?

But I think that if we can have an original name for the forum and avoid latin at the same time, we should. Afterall, it has to be catchy for everyone, not just those who know latin. Because of this I think The Baths would be better than Balineum

It's "guide" as in a person, a leader type of thing. And you'd need to change it into the genitive, which would be ducis, and then into the plural because there's more than one... and... er... ducorum?

Plus you just know people are going to come in and ask where all the ducks are.

Liber would be a more appropriate Latin word - codex is valid, but slightly more obscure (plus it has all the 40K connotations these days). But "Library" is a bit too generic again - there's already literary/historical forums here, first and foremost it has to be connected to modding, changing things, making discoveries.

I think we should be wary of being too obscure with the names - we don't want more posts misdirected than we have already. Plus it's hard enough to get people to read the guides forum as it is - IMO "Modding Guides, Tools & Tutorials" would be best - not flashy, but it gets the job done.

    General forum

On the other hand, the General forum is a bit too general a name. What's the forum for? It's for questions, it's for research, it's for discoveries, conversations happen there, yes, but it's not just shooting the breeze as in taverns or bath-houses. It should give the air of a research faculty of a scientific school. If there isn't something similar from history then something like:

Novamus : We make anew, refresh, revive, change, alter, invent
or Locus Novamus : the place (where) we make anew, refresh, etc.

But maybe that's too obscure as well - doesn't have to be accurate latin, just needs to be snappy, latinesque and preferably have the word Mod in it somewhere.

    How about Moditorium?

Edit: On the topic of the guides forum, have you considered moderator approval of all new threads there (in the same way as Ludus Magna)? There's barely a couple of new threads there a week and it would solve the problem behind Duke John's comedy stickies.

I think the modding forum name should itself have something to do with modding. TWC's choice of "Workshop" is nice—maybe that in Latin? Officina?

How about Forum for the general subforum, Forge for the forge and Scriptorium for the G&T subforum?

I think codex decorum doesn't sound right. It doesn't make sense because it translates as book of leaders where as it should really be something like book of guidance or lists of guidance. So maybee Codex Magisterium (an account book of guides/guidance) or Bibliotheca Magisterium (a library of guidance). The verb to guide is actually rego, regere, rexi, rectum but I doubt we want to call the place the rectum so I put in Magisterium meaning directorship , magistracy; direction, guidance. What do you think?

    Bibliotheca Magisterium
    Codex Magisterium
