Hi Everybody,

Just started playing MTW.

So here's a silly first question.

What's the maximum valour a unit can have.

Is it unlimited or capped?

I think it's unlimited. Someone around here posted a screen of his single Royal Knight at 25 valor!

In multi player or custom battle the max is 4. However in campaign play i think its pretty much unlimited i have seen one unit get to as high as 12 valor however they usually die off before they can get obsenely high in valor.

AFAIK the difference between attack vs def is capped to 20 and -20 for each though. = If you're fighting fresh peasants (-4 def) then you won't get any better on killing them after your attack is higher than 16 (you can still improve your killing on better units though). Likewise if you got more than 22 in def, the peasant (2 attack I think) cannot get any worse on killing your troops.

Don't remember the formula used though.

Easiest way to get those 10+ valor troops is bribe them off the losing side of a faction during/after a civil war. Royals often have some of the valor V&V's. Getting a unit to over 5 valor from just kills is very hard, I have only done it once with my favorite band of huscarles in VI (V6 from kills+V6 from V&V's+V3 from command stars). My highest valor unit was a band of V21 Boyars bribed straight from Novgorod, I can't even remember all the V&V's that general had.

I once had a valor 15 jedi prince as the bzy. I send him into battles alone sometimes, always he would win. Only time thats happened in maby 300 games of MTW.

They had the valor before I bribed them. Makes them expensive and worth it.

Slightly different subject but is the number of command stars capped or unlimited? I have generals on seven or eight - I may even have had a nine star general can't quite remember is that about the maximum level?

Though, In my experience, the Byzantines are the only ones to have 8+ star generals, often several of them.

You can build your own if you are patient enough, though. In my current game I took a three star general and attacked the HRE. They then threw massive counter-attack after counter-attack against him. By the time they were winded he had gained a few stars from experience, plus he was now some kind of field defense expert that gives him 3 more stars on defense. Took him out on a few risky attacks and now he also gets two stars when he attacks. Made him the gov of some province that gives one more star (even though his acumen is kinda low.) Left him at 9 stars defense, 8 stars attack.

Breed your kings

. You can get 10+ 8-9 star generals that way.

Especially when they get them from killing French and Spanish Armies!!!

I had a Russian Boyar General who started at about 4 stars and after many years of his army alone mopping up massive armies of Almohads on the other side of the world he had 9 stars just from combat, plus 3 defense from Field Defense Specialist, 2 offense from expert attacker, and 1 defense if outnumbered 2:1 from skilled last stand, so a total of 11 on attack and 12-13 on defense. Too bad it only registers 9 of those. When he got his ninth star I got a message saying he was the greatest general who ever lived and he would never be matched again. It was awesome!

In VI it is so easy to get good jedi generals, my best was a 9* Viking Heir with all the risky attack/risky defender/last stand defender/seige attack/seige defender virtues. The unit had 12 valor and could handle those massive rebellions by itself. I don't have the replay anymore, but IIRC it was about 2400 kills vs 21 dead, and I walked away from the computer in the middle of the battle or it would have been worse.
