As the Greeks I'd taken Rome after the SPQR had been daft enough to leave the city and make a fight of it, but instead of the "Facton Destroyed" announcement, a purple patch appeared on the map in Pannonia, 3 doors away - a province which, despite all East Europe seeming much of a muchness, I was under the impression that I owned.
A punitive expedition was dispatched to Aquincum and sure enough there was the shrine to Aphrodite I'd built, standing out like a sore thumb among the mud huts, guarded by a motley crew of town watch and equites who'd made the trip from Rome. As exchanges go, Aquincum for Rome isn't a bad one but where's the logic in this?
I suppose it's possible that there'd been a rebellion and the insurgents had done a deal with the SPQR but no one had thought to inform me.
